Pat's Story

Hello to all who may or may not remember me. I was one of those cowboys who spent their time in between classes by the gym. No I wasn't one of those idiots who stood and spit on the sidewalk. I worked the oilfields the summer after graduation and in between symesters of college. I decided that the money I was making was more than my dad and college wasn't for me. I married the love of my life (Valerie Wicker) in 1980 and our first son was born a year later. He is now 27 yrs. old and has been an officer in the Oklahoma City P.D. for about 6 yrs. In 1990 shortly after giving up on having any more children and throwing away all the baby stuff our second son was born. He is an Honor Society kind of kid and we couldn't be more proud. I have stuck with the oilfield and have settled into the "Safety" end of the industry. The only thing I regret about my high school years is that I missed out on a lot of dating because I was so afraid of rejection. The last day of school one of the "beautiful girls" in my click wrote in my yearbook that she wondered if I was gay or not because there were at least a half dozen girls who wanted me to ask them out. Why couldn't she have told me this the last day of my junior year!! I thought then that it would be a great summer, the only problem was that my new job had be working 80 to 100 hours a week which didn't leave much time for anything other than sleeping. I was all over the state and never knew when or where I would be the next day so dating was difficult. As I said in 1980 I was at the stables feeding our horses and met the love of my life. She batted those big brown eyes at me as I carried two 50# sacks of feed to...Expand for more
my shed at the same time and said, "Just what I was looking for a big strong man to carry my feed for me. That was all the invitation I needed and we were married a year later. I'm not sure what I did in God's eyes to deserve such a good and beautiful woman but I'll be forever thankful. More likely Valerie had done something pretty bad and God gave her me to pay her back. Oh Wel! Lucky me!!!!!! We moved 10 times in the first 10 years of our marriage following the oilfield. Finally settled down in Banquete TX. of all places. Quiet country living and reports of good school systems lured us there. It didn't take long to realize that "Quiet" really meant boring and although the schools did well enough on the standardized tests we began to realize that our oldest son was probably going to be the Valedictorian of his class and graduating #1 in a class of 40 seniors didn't carry a whole lot of weight. We packed up and moved to the Bluff in "95 and it payed off. Our oldest ended up getting a full ride scholarship at OU. (He also quit school with a year left to join the OK City P.D.) In truth I'm glad because he would have ended up in Iraq had he stayed with the ROTC program. Now I've finally whittled those 80 to 100 hour weeks down to 50 to 60 hrs. a week and am home every night. Life is good. Well I look forward to seeing many long forgotten faces at the reunion. None of you will recognize me as I am now 6' 4" and weigh 230 lbs. I win every body buiding contest I enter and have had several plastic surgeries. Not really!!! I'm still the same not quite ugly and almost handsome prime physical specimen I ever was. Just look at my pics. Pat
