Pat's Story
I'm a single parent here in San Jose, I love the weather here, so I never left after graduating from SJSU. I have (3) daughters, 39, 31, 23, a 16 year old grand daughter, a 4 year old grand daughter and 3 year old grandson. I own a home in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose, and built a 500 square foot guest home at the rear of the property. My middle daughter and her husband moved into the guest house so they could save money for their own place and recently moved to Washington State. Now my youngest daughter works at Starbucks and has moved into the guest house.
While attending SJSU in 1976, I designed the corporate logo for the 4th TOGO'S Eatery sandwich shop to open and carved the TOGO'S redwood signs for each new store. In 1977, I was accepted into the Marine Corps Officers Flight School, but it was discovered that I had a slight depth perception difference between my left and right eyes, so back to civilian life. Graduated with honors from SJSU 1978, Aeronautical Operations Major, Business Minor. Completed some graduate courses at Harvard University in 2000.
Shortly after graduating from SJSU, I went to work for TOGO'S Corporate as a Construction Manager and worked my way up to Vice President of the Corporation. I designed and built out over 200 new TOGO'S shops, then my boss sold TOGO'S in 1997 to the ...Expand for more
company that also owned Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts. I worked for the new owners for the next 8 years, commuting coast to coast to Boston as many as 3 out of 4 weeks a month. That travel earned me over a million miles on American Airlines, as well as over a million Hilton Hotel points, so we used the points for free airfares and free hotels in Europe, taking my parents on one trip and cruises around the Mediterranean, eventually spending 7 weeks experiencing Europe in the following years.
I'm currently working close to home as a Project Manager for DURAY, completing projects at the S.F. 49er's stadium, Apple, Adobe, Genentech, Google, Amazon, UC Berkeley, Marriotts, Sharks, etc. (No more coast to coast commute). We are the Food Service Equipment supplier/installer for large commercial kitchens. A fast paced job, but I'm having a blast!
I still have my 1970 Camaro from high school and a nice collection of (7) other restored vehicles. I restored a 1968 AMX that won 40 trophies, undefeated and was featured on the cover of Cars & Parts, the centerfold of Car Craft and 47 more pages of other National magazine coverage. Restoring cars is one of my hobbies, along with collecting antique radios, old neon signs/clocks, (lots of other unique antiques) and my vegetable gardening.
I hope everyone is well. Sincerely, Pat
