Patricia's Story

Beginning this life in Rocky Mount, NC in 1948, raised by a single mother, and three aunts, 3 godmothers, and a host of Center Street family and friends, it is no wonder that I grew into a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all that encountered and engaged me. With the guidance of these folks, it is no wonder that I persisted through all the struggles, disappointments, and grief this life has presented to me. I never lost my way and my faith never quiverred. I am the mother of 3 wonderful women, two great sons, sixteen grands and a host of great-grands (stopped counting). My oldest son Henry died 14 years ago, my mother 117 years ago, sister Joan 12 years ago, and my bother Tyrone - 9 years ago; leaving my younger sister Jackie and me of our immediate family. Since the '90s, countless other family was lost as well. As indicated above, although life threw me many curves, I never lost my way. I was a single mother, raised five children, and in the in midst of all that I got a high school diploma, earned a bachelor degree and a Master of Business Administration. We lived in the Washington, DC area for over 25 years, Detroit, Michigan five years - where I receive my bachelor's at the University of Detroit in 1979 and Waldorf, Maryland, 18 years where I rece...Expand for more
ived an MBA from The Johns Hopkins University in 2001. My testimony to young people, especially young women, is let go and let God; if you want to change your life, change your environment; and it's never never too late. In addition, what God has for you, is for you, and no one except you can change that. Wait on Him and his plans for you will be revealed in due time. When the time was right, God sent me Karl. We married October 9, 2004 and lived very happily in Rocky Mount until his death May 24, 2018. I continue to live in Rocky Mount at this time. We both accomplished our goals of raising our children to be productive citizens and good parents. Needless to say, we are very proud of them. I had over a thirty year career in banking as a commercial lender and more prominently as a bank regulator. I retired after twenty three years as a National Bank Examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. At retirement I was physically tired but still mentally alert and ready to keep going. So after a year of rest, I worked as a Community Development Specialist until June 2019. I am finally retired and enjoying it.. As Forest Gump said, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get. My box of chocolates have been great and I thank God every day.
