Patricia's Story
After getting my first at Ventura College (first AA. in Art), I married Tim Mathews (VSH class of 1960, V.C. Class of 1962) in 1994. We waited four years before starting a family, knowing we were really young. We had two wonderful daughters together, but divorced in 1975. After three years in banking, I went back to college to get a degree in nursing, R.N. Graduated in 1980. I was a single woman with two daughters for ten years. In 1985, I married a nice fellow (eng./atty.) who bombarded me with flattering proposals¿married too fast, so we only lasted 3 yrs. Single again for 2 yrs. (empty-nested one year, which was good for me.
Out of the blue, the first boy I ever dated, Robert Collins (also class of '60), came back into my life. He invited me to visit him in Alaska, and said to bring my golden retriever too! We have been together since 1991. Married in 1993 in Kotzbue, AK, where we lived for two years¿27 miles above the Arctic Circle. Imagine doing that! -42 degrees below zero...used an ATV for transportation...very different from Ventura, CA.! Or Fresno, Carpinteria, Capistrano Beach, Newbury Park, or Pleasanton!
I'm now retired from nursing and having fun doing some acting and modeling. The best part was being the mother of the Bride in the movie, "What the Bleep do We Know?" starring Marlee Matlin. Having five lines made me eligible for S.A.G.! I broke the Catch 22 of th...Expand for more
e industry¿exciting, because in order to have a speaking part in a movie, you have to be a S.A.G. member, but to be in SAG, you have to have had a speaking part in a movie. They Taft/Hartleyed me in and at the age of 59 I felt like Cinderella on the set!
To be truly happy I would love to finish perfecting the memoir I have written and get it published. I would also like to have my own weekly TV Variety Show¿like the Carol Burnett Show! Having a great time making people laugh, doing the sort of things Carole Burnette did: singing, dancing, doing funny characters, ad-libbing, and cracking up!!
I always wanted to be a singer and actress/comedian when I grew up. My parents thought it was an impractical idea. Like most parents of the 1950's, they wanted to fit me into a "good girl" box. I tried like the dickens, but there are just too many things I wanted to do....to try! To taste! To BE! They didn't realize I had A.D.D.! I don't mind being on that list at all! Google "Famous people with A.D.D." (NOT that I am famous!)
This doesn't seem to be on the list of interests, but I love to travel. Mexico, Japan, Canada, Spain, Costa Rica, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Thailand and Burma are where I have been, so far.
Photography is something I have gotten really into the past few years. Digital has made it more fun, and getting to edit my own photos on the computer is great! (I LOVE my iMac!)
