PAT's Story
I am an Internet & Phone Technical Support Specialist at Charter Communications (Spectrum). I am a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tampa serving as the Social Action & INTERWEAVE chairs.
I came out as a active Lesbian in 1992. Since then I have been actively involved with many service organizations within the Tampa Bay LGBTQ Community including: Crescendo: The Tampa Bay Womyn's Chorus (singing 1st or 2nd Soprano & serving as the Public Relations Director & a member of the Board of Directors), Equality Florida (previously known as the Tampa Bay Human Rights Task Force),Greater Tampa Bay Pride Organization, Metropolitan Community Church of Tampa (singing 1st or 2nd Soprano in the Choir & working as the Technical Producer for Color Wheel), Suncoast Pride Organization, & Tampa AIDS Network, Metro Community Wellness Centers & AIDS Service Association of Pinellas.
In 2001, I was blessed to be a bone marrow match for a 6 year old little girl, who was battling cancer. The following February I was able to donate stem cells (very similar to Bone Marrow) through Apheresis; & am able to say that she led a full, active life for another 3 years after the transplant; with her family. I am also a 45+ Gallon Blood donor & have been giving blood since I was 17.
Additionally, I was named volunteer Media chair for the Tampa chapter of the American Cancer Society's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk/fundraiser in 2005; & continue to volunteer for this event every year. I have also been the Marketing & Public Relations Chair for the annual Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. I volunteered annually for the Komen 3 Day Tampa Bay ...Expand for more
as Camp Logistics crew '10 & '11, Camp Logistics Co-Captain '12, & Camp Teams Senior Captain '13, & in 2014 I continued my 5th consecutive year in crew; traveling to Atlanta to serve the Camp Logistics team.
I met my wife, Elba Alicea, in 2001 & our anniversary date is actually my birthday as well (10/27). We were married on Valentine's day 2014 in a mass wedding at the Largo Botanical Gardens; the 1st year same sex couples could be legally married. Our house is in North Tampa, near Busch Gardens.
I graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications in the Radio & Television Programming & Production track in 1990.
I worked for several years at WTOG 44 & Home Shopping Network in Master Control. I had many opportunities to meet & work with many "local" celebrities including Gene Deckeroff (the radio voice of the Florida State Seminoles & Tampa Bay Buccaneers), several of the head coaches of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lynn Austin (the original Hooter's girl) & Dr. Paul Bearer (host of Saturday's Creature Feature). I also worked for several years at the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida.
I played Rugby on the USF Club team for 2 years at the position of Tight-Head Prop. I have also played Softball & Volleyball in the Tampa Bay community for many years. I was a defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Tempest, Force & Terminators of the Independent Women's Football League; & was involved with Women's Professional Tackle Football for over 5 years (in my 40's) & have played on 2 Division Champion teams.
