Weequahic High Class of 1968 Obituary for Ms. LaVerne Young, 68, of Newark, NJ entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. She was born on September 11, 1950, in Newark, NJ to Thelma W. Young and the late James Robert Young, Sr. She obtained her early education in Newark, NJ at the Eighteenth Ave School, Newton St. School, Bergen St. School, Peshine Ave School where she graduated from the 8th grade and went on to Weequahic High School, and graduated with the class of 1968. She was also business manager of the Sigma Psi Beta Sorority. After high school, she entered the workforce at the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company of Newark, NJ, as a secretary. Her work was so well liked by the company that she was sent to a computer training class at the World Trade Center in New York as a redactor operator. Her skills extended to working for other companies as a secretary and a paralegal. She was also employed by the I Epstein and Sons Inc., a kosher food distributor for Manischewitz.
