Patricia's Story

I still treasure my years at Girls' Latin. I was a B'see. Wasn't that a defining acronym? I remember our first week at school not understanding why other girls kept calling us new girls B'sees. What a rough time that first month was! I learned so much, not just by subject, but work habits, study methods, and the hard and immediate consequences of not thoroughly learning a homework assignment when facing the morning quiz....oh, those terrible, gut-wrenching moments, praying that I got at least 60% of the Latin vocabulary correct, gender, case, declension, or conjugation. I did not succeed in graduating with my class, as I left the city at the end of 11th grade, but I stayed close to class members of 4B2 senior year. I graduated from Newton High School but my heart wasn't in it; I felt like a stranger there. At Latin School, I couldn't walk in the corridor without people calling out to me. ed an Iranian gentleman, Hamed Shahamiri, in 1981 and we moved to Beverly Hills, California. Our eldest son, James, was born in 1983 and we packed up and moved to San Francisco to be close to Hamed's family. I worked at AT&T Western Region Information Systems Marketing Staff reporting directly to one of the Vice Presidents. I left in 1992 when our second son, Andrew, was three years old. I have been a stay at home mom since then. I cook, bake bread, garden, read, enjoy movies and some television shows. Most of all, I love being mother to my two boys. James lives at home with us. He is an engineer for th city's transportation department. His group designs the bicycle paths for the city, often removing lanes of traffic and parking spaces. This is not a popular remedy to the congested byways of our old city, but it is the future and present philosophy - to remove cars from the equation as much as possible. Andrew is finishing his senior year at Seattle University, a private Jesuit institution. He has loved his four years there and is planning to stay on in the area next year dedicating himself to working with the poor and living simply in a Jesuit Youth Corps. Program. God bless him!
