Patricia's Story

Hi, Here's an update on my life. Along with my wonderful son, Mark, and his lovely wife, I have two beautiful, talented granddaughters, Faith Alyse and Kahlan Rose. My husband, Ron and I moved to Redding from Lake Tahoe, to be near our granddaughters. We have a great time, running, laughing, reading, singing, and just plain fun. I don't know about surprising anyone at the high school reunion, but I would love to go. I missed it in 2006 because my husband and I were in Ireland. We are off again in April for another wonderful trip to the emerald isle. I am unable to do as much as I once was, because I have issues with my feet. But I continue to try as much as possible. I can't dance, hike or ski anymore, but I can swim. So I swim at least three times a week. I would love to see Sr. Mary Marguarite again. She make such a difference in my life. I believe that she was the one who really made me want to improve. I think she would be proud of me. I don't think I was very wild in school. But I do know I could have been better. I wish I had tried harder. I think I could have made better grades. My study skills were not very good. My first crush was a young man, named Jim Sullivan. I met him at Church in Noe Valley, and fell like a rock. He later married a girl in my class. I hope they are as happy as I am. I remember many girls from school, but unfortunately I didn't keep in touch with them. I remember Diane Arrieta, and last year I learned that she had died. I don't know how or when, but I was sad about her death. I remember Hannah Daher, but haven't seen or heard from her since the early years after graduation. I would be truly happy if I were in Ireland 6 months of the year, with frequent visits from my family. Ireland is were my soul resides, but my heart can't leave my family. My profession is nursing. I am an RN, PHN, and worked in Home Health Nursing for 25 years. I loved what I did, and met wonderful people. I was able to really help people heal, stay in their homes, and died peacefully and pain free. I have many friends in heaven. The biggest surprise in my life was the overwhelming love I feel for my granddaughters. I didn't believe that anything could come close to having my son, but helping with the delivery of my granddaughters, and involved in their lives, are equal. The do-over for me would be learning more in school, and learning more about money. How to build a strong portifolio, and how to say no to myself and othersl No is a word I now do well with, but it has taken me many years. I lived most of my life in the San Francisco bay area. nd I, moved to the Lake Tahoe area after I became ill. We lived there for about 5 years, before my son and his lovely wife, Crista, had our first granddaughter. We made the decision that we had to be part of their lives. A great idea, I think. I haven't said anything much about my husband, but we have been married for 42 years. A wonderful 42 years, and we "reup" every November. That is the only time we can make a change! An odd way to run a marriage, but it seems to have worked. We also laugh alot and enjoy our lives on a daily basis. Well, here it is a brief summery of my life. I hope you enjoy it. Patti Kavanaugh Blackmore UpDate! 2/07/15 We now have an incredible 3 yr. old Grandson, Chase Alexander. Such a smart little boy, oops big boy!! We still are fortunate to see are Grandchildren regularly. Faith Elyeese is 12 yr. and sings like a star. She has been in several plays through her school, Redding School of the Arts. She was just in Aladdin, in the chorus. A great job was done by the whole cast. Next year she will have a better chance at the lead because she will be in 8th grade. These kids are amazing!! They practice for 6 mos. and put on a VERY professional performance . Kahlan, is 9 yrs. and goes to RSA with Faith. She is in the 4 grade and takes singing lessons, also. Her voice is coming into its own and will give Faith a run for her money. Chase sings all over the place, and has some great sounds, too. I am often heard to say, they will perform as the 3 B's. . We still have Boxers, but newer ones. We have to put a lot of love into their short lives. Only about 8-12 yrs. It seems that larger dogs have shorter life spans. When we lose one of our babes, sadness is overwhelming. I started taking Harp lessons about 6 yrs. ago, and am a work in progress. It seems that it takes an adult 100 times to do the same things that a child can learn once. But I keep rolling along, and am very happy with my progress. I am also learning to speak Irish. My husband, Ron and I have been to Ireland now 3 times and am looking forward to another trip this year. Ireland is full of wonderful people, it is a magical place. Every time I go, it feels like I'm going home. Ron says I'm nuts. San Francisco is my Home. Well, the first time I landed in Ireland, the feeling was overwhelming. Who knew roots were so deep. Bringing my darling husband into the mix, we will celebrate are 49th Wedding anniversary November 12, 2015. And are happier than ever. He got a Rose, I got a Diamond, in more ways than one. ;) Thank you for your attention, we send blessings and wishes of happiness to all. Patricia Kavanaugh-Blackmore
