Pat's Story
I know that those of you who do remember me, about 50% will do so because I was "Aut's girl"; the rest probably won't remember me because I pretty much kept to myself.... and that's okay................. things (I) am different now.
Past Life:
After graduating from hi school, I worked at Westinghouse for 2 yrs. I married my high school sweetheart, Alan Erickson, and we moved to Rochester where Al worked for Kodak for the next 14 years. We have 2 beautiful daughters; they are a year and a day apart. We moved to Colorado in the 80's where Al worked at the Kodak plant for the next 13 yrs. He passed on after a short illness, in 1994.
When I remarried, my husband decided to quit his fireman's position in Loveland, CO and become a full time cowboy. Suprise!! We lived on a ranch in Steamboat Springs area for awhile, where I was a ranch wife. Then we moved to AZ where I worked for the school district and a sandwich shop and the eventually for a dude ranch for the winter as a waitress.
Because of some people we met there, we went back to CO and were mgr/wranglers for a 75 horse stable in Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park for the summer and lived in a log cabin at 8,500ft. Then it was on to Phoenix, AZ, to do the same at a riding stable there for the winter; eventually we bought our own stable and horses and worked with a large hotel near the Mexican border. We ended up back in the Phoenix area with our own boarding facility for 40 horses and an arena where we put on events 2-3 times a wk, oh, and 40 head of cattle too. How's that for a Cheektowaga girl?
Through a series of fortunate events, I ended up starting over in a new life; worked at a variety of jobs to pay the bills. Met a nice guy from Williamsville, NY who taught me how to shoot, fly fish and all about archery. We had a great time and he taught me a lot about patience and peace. We traveled throughout the US. Unfortunately he had a quadruple bypass and never was the same. He passed away not too long after from other complications.
2008: I had started another chapter in my life. I had lived in the Prescott for 7yrs and altho I liked it, and knew that I was where God had wanted me to be; I wanted to stretch my legs a bit. So I decided to move back to Colorado after leaving there 33 years ago. I moved in with a gal pa...Expand for more
l of mine from that long ago but I found that we just didn't work out as well as I had hoped. I enjoyed hiking, camping and the elk in the mtns and it was only 40 miles to the National Park. But even with the love of the park and another special person I had out there, I missed my daughter and grandkids. So ....It was back to AZ I went, after 9 months.
That is why I guess I felt the urge to sell everything that did not fit in my Subaru when I left Prescott: easier to move around. My move was not uneventful tho..my car decided to stop running about 90 miles from Flagstaff and I had to be towed into the next town and then have my daughter come and get me. Then go back with a rented truck and car trailer and get 'her" my poor car. So she sits in the yard waiting for a new engine; but I am moved in and we love our place in Flagstaff. I have lived here before and it's a great little town. It has the mountains, skiing, camping, fishing, hiking, lots of forest trails, Indian ruins, and lots of elk. We are at 7,000ft in town. And only about 45 min from the Grand Canyon and about 5 hrs from Durango, CO. And the temps......:-) :-)
This is another new start in my life. And who knows, it probably won't be the last!
I have some challenges but it just makes me try harder. Lately Life has been really good. Not much pain, not too tired..but oh the fibro fog...hate that! Might have to start putting labels in my clothes that say: if found return to blah, blah, blah. Nah! Not yet!
Getting ready for our 50th HS reunion..OMG...never thought I'd be reaching this milestone! But it's here, in about 6 weeks. And I stepped out and got on the reunion committee which used to be a real hard thing for me to come out of my shell to do. But I am enjoying it immensely! So I am doing another new thing for me: I am taking the train from downtown (little ol' Flagstaff) to Depew, NY. I have never traveled on a train before and since I have the time, why not?!! Leave on a Wed early am, spend 6hrs in Chicago, and arrive in Depew on Fri am. Should be another one of my trips to write in my journal! Staying with cousins and I have not been back to Buffalo since '89.
I am sooo excited about this reunion!!!!! It will be whatever a person makes it..And I will make it memories!
