I've been an elementary school teacher for twenty-four years now...I took a five year break when my son was born in '85...More than half of my years in the classroom have been spent teaching Language Arts to fifth graders...Fifth graders are definitely my niche...I truly love the age of ten to eleven years old!...Since I always wanted to be a teacher, I know that I've been living the ideal career for me...I haven't been disappointed and would do it all over again...I know that the money has never been good in teaching, but I knew that going in on day one...So many of the teaching experiences I've had over the years are "priceless" and the memories are amazing...I feel that I've had an opportunity to make a difference throughout the years, so that has been very ...Expand for more
satisfying for me both emotionally and professionally...I still have contacts with students from even the early years of my career, and they are already in their early thirties with families of their own!...I'm sure that I'll continue teaching for many years to come, since retirement isn't even "on my radar" yet...For a long time, I thought that I would move back to Tampa when my son finished high school...I don't think that will happen now, but that is really OK with me...My son, Christopher, is now a junior at Texas A&M University...Of all the things that I've accomplished successfully in this life, I am the most proud and thankful for him...I've lived in Texas again for eleven years now...I have a great life, am very content and happy, and feel so blessed everyday.
