Patricia's Story

What a trip to be 68! I remember living in La Crescenta when I was 10 years old and looking ahead to the turn of the century. I just could not imagine myself at age 57 - and now, here I am, older than my grandmother was in 1953. I hesitate to write down "my story" because it's always changing. I never liked to have my picture taken because it freezes me in time - a time that might not be one of my best times. So, how can I condense the past 50 years into a short story? Here's my best shot: Unlike many of you I am not a world traveler. US, Canada, Mexico - bingo-bango, that's it. Good grief - again, unlike many (most) of you, I did not even go to college -- unless you count many semesters of night school as an adult. So much for what I did NOT do. I have two wonderful sons who are wonderful parents. What more can I ask for? They are not and never were yo-yo kids that bounced back "home" whenever things got tough. I'm quite proud of them. I've been married (are you ready for this?) FIVE times. I just kept trying to get it right! Three have died and I maintain regular contact with the other two. It wasn't their fault - I'm just not the marrying kind. There was an artist, two engineers, an insurance salesman, and a real estate magnate. Through them I learned the delicate art of step-parenting. (what do you mean, you won't eat anything green?) Ihave 5 lovely step daughters who still maintain contact via Facebook. I was a stay-at-home wife and mother until 1970 and have been working ever since. I was a switchboard operator, letter carrier, typesetter and proofreader, secretary to 6 CEO's, Sales and Marketing Manager, Research Associate, and Compensation Analyst. I ewas offered a job once as a topless dancer but I turned it down. I currently own and run a business from my home, am a licen...Expand for more
sed Episcopalian preacher, a member of the City Council, and active in several civic groups. I live in a very small town full of very big-hearted people. I can't imagine living anywhere else. I have two dogs - A Golden Retriever named Zooey and a Standard Poodle named Charmaine. It's like having small children all over again! High school was an important time for me. It was fun and sad at the same time. At the very least it was character-building. It wasn't easy being different but I learned to relish it - indeed, I learned to capitalize on it! I have such fond memories of many of you. With life being so full of twists and turns I wonder how you all turned out. My sister, Carolyn, is alive and very well in Southern Colorado. We talk almost every day. I like watching films. I can watch them over and over again. I think I've seen Excalibur 50 times. I've always liiked music. Classical and Jazz rank high with me. Love plays. I remember a lot of what Miss Hargraves taught us in Spanish 1 through 6; however, I'm desperate to learn French. I recently bought a Rosetta Stone product to help me out with this. We'll see if this old dog can actually learn a new trick. I'm still taller than most people I know or meet, but I have shrunk somewhat since high school. My eyes are still the color of jade and my hair can be about any color. I keep it red most of the time. I like it and it gives people something to remember me by and to talk about. I remain unconventional in appearance and dress. I'm looking forward to painting the inside of my house this Spring. It's been too cold and damp to do anything this Winter. I have some landscaping plans as well. That's about it. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I am an open book - No secrets here. Take care. Love to all.
