Patricia's Story
Life
I have lived in Virginia since 1970, when I moved here from New Jersey after high school graduation to attend Mary Washington College. I earned an undergraduate degree in speech pathology and audiology and a master's degree from the University of Virginia in counseling (1976), as well as an educational specialist degree from the College of William and Mary (1986). I helped develop the concept of supported employment for people with disabilities in the early 80's; for the past ten years I have worked with people with brain injuries. 1 and remain very active with this grassroots advocacy organization. I've been married for 25 years and have two chidlren, Patrick 21 and Megan 18. After six years of public schools, we made the decision to send both kids to a small Catholic school (despite some of MY own experiences at Catholic schools!). Patrick has since graduated and is now attending my alma mater, Mary Washington! My husband and I visited Somerville, NJ recently where we gorged on Italian pastries (you can't get decent ones in Richmond) and stopped by to see Immaculata High School. I have been in touch with Nancy Kirkpatrick (my best friend from high school) via occasional Christmas cards, but haven't seen her in several years.
