Patricia's Story
Life
Wow...where to begin. I met my husband my last year in college, and we were married the following fall. Our first child was born 2 1/2 years later. As of today, this shall be quite brief, as I would like to spend some good time placing emphasis on mainly the things I now realize were the "highlights" of my life. Losing my husband of 42 years a little over 1 1/2 ago has made me realize the importance of a lot of things I just took for granted. We had two boys and a girl, and we truly had a wonderful life. We both were very intent on giving our kids the best in education, and we, now looking back, had in many ways....the best of the best. I have had monetary things, but those, I now realize, are not all that important to have happiness in life, and fortunately, they never interferred with our having this in our marriage and with our family. It is very sad when one loses a spouse, especially after you have spent almost a lifetime with them....you have to begin to "rethink" about all of the little things that you now realize were much more important than one realizes when you are going along, day after day during this "lifetime." Truly, I am soo grateful for my children, and I now have 5 little grandchildren; two have been born this past year; my dearest, dearest husband did not get to meet them, but at least he saw our kids grow up, and that is more than many people live to see. My friends have been very good, and my kids are all very busy with their lives....one is an architect;one is in commercial real estate; and my daughter is a nurse. She has taken time off to enjoy her baby girl for this first year. I have three Shi Tzus...my little Charlie, Shelby, and Barclay, a...Expand for more
nd one huge (130 lbs.) Old English Sheepdog, Austin, so I have plenty, you would think, to keep me busy. Seeing my husband in an ICU unit for one entire year was very difficult, even though I remained upbeat and positive the entire time, but afterwards, I was kind of left in a "time warp", as I found myself really having lost almost a year of my life. All I did was go back and forth daily to the hospital; I spent almost all of my time there, and this can be very, very tiring. Thanks to some lovely neighbors who had been through losing a spouse, I have had some good support. I go to the Country Club....dine with friends,my family, and take the grandchildren. We have a beautiful place here where I live in San Antonio, and right by my house are what are called, "The Lakes"...waterfalls, beautiful trees, and I get on the golf cart and head out down there. It is a large golf community. When it is not too hot and not too many mosquitoes, I take the granddaughter for stroller rides. It is very high security in here, and I feel safe, thus I prefer to stay in this community. I have become a major Spurs fan...they are awesome, and I never miss a game. Many of the players, including the coach, live in this subdivision. Oh, and for any of you Country/Western fans, George Strait lives up on the highest point in here...he moved to the highest point, so they say, so his helicopter would not draw complaints!! HA
If any of my friend see this, please email me, and I shall email you back. I am extremely big into computers..not just email and surfing, but I have made myself quite at home inside the working mechanisms as well.... I have to do something to stay busy!!
