Patricia's Story
Life
Has it really been so long since senior year?
Let's see...I went to UCA...pledged a sorority (I know that's hard to believe, but I did.)
I got my MRS and my MOM (a beautiful little girl named Ginni) but no other degree and left in 1984 to follow my Army husband to Ft. Sill, OK, and then to Heilbronn, Germany. In Germany, I had another beautiful daughter (Katy) and a divorce.
I came home feeling pretty much like a failure--except for my great kids, of course--and started over.
I finished my degree at UALR in 1990--BA in English. Don't ask me what I was going to do with it--certainly not get a real job.
In December 90 I moved to Louisiana and began work on my teaching certificate at McNeese State University in Lake Charles. I promptly met my husband Travis and married him in Dec 91.
A very important part of my life began in 2001. I accompanied my older daughter on a Mexico Mission Trip for seniors from her school. Within 24 hours of arriving in the Yucatan, I was hooked. I can't believe how I've fallen ...Expand for more
in love with the people there. Now I help organize the trip each year, and I can't imagine not being a part of it. I felt a very strong calling to be a part of mission work as far back as high school, but I put it on the back burner. Only now is it all coming together. Now my biggest challenge is learning more Spanish so that I can communicate better!
My next big hurdle was Master of Pastoral Studies from Loyola University New Orleans. That allowed me to take on my current job...get ready for it...the principal of an elementary school.
Ginni is 23, has a beautiful daughter, and is getting married in April. Her fiance has a little boy, so I will be a grandmother all over again! Katy is 21 and in her senior year of college with an honors scholarship--beautiful and brilliant.
Oh yeah, I forgot--I'm Catholic now too (since 1993). For those of you who really know me, that's probably the weirdest fact of all.
I guess it has to have been this many years for my life to have become so, so different.
