Patrick's Story

Hello all just to catch everyone up of what has happened since I have last seen everyone. After high school I enrolled in the University of Southern Colorado and pursued a degree in Psychology, I thought I wanted to help people with their problems. I enjoyed my time in College, several former Florence students were there when I was there including, Shawn Cruzen, Greg Conover, Mary Stephensen, Molly Cleaver, Kelly Morgan and others. I developed a few new friendships while at USC and have enjoyed keeping in touch with a few of those friends as well. After graduation from USC I went to work for the Colorado Department of Corrects at the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center after a year at DOC I wanted to use more of my psychology degree and went to work for St. Lukes Hospital in one of the locked psychiatric wards for about three years. Following that I continued working as a counselor for the Mental Health Corporation of Denver, Arapahoe County Mental Health Center, And Jefferson Center for Mental Health, during these years I had the opportunity to develop and implement numerous programs to assist mentally ill adults in becoming more independent. I eventually left Denver moving to Colorado Springs in the mid 1990's and became a program director for the American Cancer Society where I had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the most incredible and inspiring people I have ever met. I remained at the American Cancer Society for about 4 years, during which time I married my first wife and had my only child my son Andrew. I eventually began getting restless with counseling and wanted to explore other career options so I enrolled in the Cisco Computer Networking Academy and attained my Cisco Certification, unfortunately when I attained my Certification it was about the same time as the whole dot.com boom ended and most high tech employers in Colorado Springs were laying people off and had little interest in hiring someone with no experience. But as they say sometimes when you do not get what you wish for something else you never imagined comes along and turns out much better than you could have expected. That is exactly what happened to me, I began working for the Center for the Prevention of Domestic Violence as a training Coordinator and after about a very the grant funding that job ended. I then found the position that has kept me busy for the past 8 year...Expand for more
s. I took a job launching a Pilot program funded by the Department of Labor and Social Security Administration. The project was being Piloted in the Pikes Peak Workforce Center and The Grand Junction Workforce Center. The program was the Disability program Navigator Initiative. The Disability Program Navigator trains the staff of the Workforce Center to effective serve and assist individuals with disabilities to return to or maintain employment. I spent three years as the Disability Program Navigator at Pikes Peak WFC. After that I was hired by the University of Colorado Health Science Center to be the state of Colorado's Disability Program Navigator Coordinator and trainer, so I now train and coordinate the activities of the 20 Disability Program Navigators around the state. This has been an excellent job as it has allowed me to travel extensively throughout the state and the United States providing training and technical assistance for the DPN Initiative. So that is what I am doing professionally at this time. As for the other facts, I currently live in Pueblo West with my second wife and our dog, sarge a 1 year old Siberian Husky. Dogs have become one of my passions, I have had 4 Siberian huskies over the past 15 years and find that they are very loyal, loving and stubborn and i just could not imagine not having the dog to share my day with. My son is beginning Junior High School fall of 2008, he has gotten so big so fast i am very proud of him, he is smart, musical and everything that I struggled with as a student comes easy to him so I have hi hopes all his goals are achieved. At this point in my life I am beginning to slow down and just enjoy the simple things and not really being to concerned with material possessions. I value having time to spend learning new things, exploring, spending time with family and pets. I still try to stay in shape jogging regularly, hiking, fishing, windsurfing and trying to keep up with my son. I have recently purchased an older home in Florence that needs significant work with hopes of remodeling the home and beginning semi-retirement and changing careers to become a consultant assisting individuals to reach their goals. Well that was a lot to share and hope old friends will feel free to contact me my email addresses are patrick dot loeber at gmail dot com or patrick dot loeber at ucdenver dot edu Well take care, Patrick
