Patrick's Story

Life After graduation, I went to Iowa State for a year. Then, I started working in the data processing industry. First as an operator and then a computer programmer. I worked as a mainframe programmer until 1999. Now, I work on client/server applications. In 1989, I got married. In 1991, we had our first and only child, a son. We live on a 95 acre farm in Maryland. We have a few horses, a dog, and several barn cats. ++++++ Since I wrote the above, my wife and I have celebrated our 20th anniversary and my son has graduated high school, become an Eagle Scout, and is starting his first semester at the local community college. He has a late birthday, so we let him put off college for one semester. He plans to study biology and has expressed interest in possibly going into the Coast Guard. We no longer have a dog. She died back in 2008. We still have the farm, a couple of horses and a few barn cats. When I'm not working for a paycheck, I volunteer a lot of my time with the local Boy Scout Council. leaders and I work with my son's old Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack. My wife works overnight on weekends, so it gives me the opportunity to go camping with the scouts. So, that's my life at the moment: work, family, and scouts. +++++++ My favorite way to relax is to attend a baseball game with my son. If I won $100 million, I'd give $10 million of it to my local Boy Scout council, then spend the rest on a house, travelling and my family. My current age is 49. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be really old. I was so completely wrong. I'm doing what I want to do. Basically, I solve problems for a living. My first job was at the dependent furnishings warehouse in Augsburg, Germany, where I got paid $1.65 an hour to deliver furniture to and pick up furniture from military housing. What I remember most about it is it was a lot of work and I was exhausted at the end of each day. I will never forget my trip to Florence, Italy as part of my Humanities class back when I was a Junior at Augsburg American High School.
