Patrick's Story

In the fall of '88 I went on to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. By Spring of '89 I was playing drums in a band called Dandelion Wine - sort of a hippy-punk fusion jam band. While in Savannah, I received an amazing education - at that time, the school still had profeesors that believed in Art as eploration, rather thatn Art for exploitation - by the spring of 1992, the "real" artists/teachers had been literally ousted in a political fiasco that would ensure NO STUDENT REPRESENTATION in the governing of S.C.A.D. Completely disenchanted by the institution, I finished college that Spring, earning a B.F.A. in Painting with a minor in Art History. Alot of good that did me, as I was never offered a class in "the business of being an artist!" In the early/mid '90's, I lived in Atlanta for an uneventful spell - except of course for the various Grateful Dead and other concerts I spent all my $ on. After spinning my wheels long enough, I decided I was ready to move. Serendipitously, I got a phne call from a friend who had just returned East from San Francisco. Reuniting with an old Reynolds friend, Jim Johnson, I played in a rock band called Gryphon, based in Athens, GA [ Jim's songwriting is to date still some of my favorite and most interesting music to play. Not many can write a compelling rock riff in 7/4 with a melody that wakes you up at night, singing on the way to the can.] I had meanwhile been making art somewhat consistently over the years, selling paintings in coffee shops and restaurants. I even made a little money at child portraiture for a time. Several bands and countless restaurant jobs later, in 1999, I decided to put down the drums and put my Art degree toward a "career". I picked up Faux Finishing - and got pretty damned good at it - as a way to make a consistent living. After building a business and moving to Asheville, NC, I met Amy, the artist/woman who would later become my wife. [ Still not sure what she was thinking, but am grateful everday that she is in my life. ] Somewhere along the way I had started playin acoustic guitar and writing songs as a way to keep the musical part of my spirit from complete disintigration. gement of friends as well as Amy, I began playing live shows, now as a frontman, rather than a kit-man. It was a little nerve-racking but I adapted. [I am still and probably will always be something of a show-off, if not just an immature dweeb. To prove it I'll be turning 40 in September, and doing so with pretty kick-ass mohawk.] Just last year, Amy my stepson Eli (now 15y/o) and I moved to Gainesville, GA - about an hour North of Atlanta - to help some friends start up a small-scale organic farm - Mr. Perryman be proud!. We provide quality food for Atlanta area restaurants as well as CSA (community supported agriculture) customers. It's been a hell of a lot of hard work. but rewarding in it's own way. MY POLITICS: Get over this idea of Republican versus Democrat - it's an illusion!!! Please don't be had by the distraction. There is one dance floor, two different dancers, the same dark fiddler calling the tune. The world bank owns us. I am not nearly as naive as I was in highschool gov/econ class, but I still believe that the government should stay the hell out of business and WAY the hell out of my wallet. Don't need any favors in the name of "security". I can take care of myself and my family. As for those in need, I'm happy to help WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT. Just don't tell me I have to... 1)If you're gay, do what you like; I could care less. 2)Abortion is between you and whatever god you do or don't believe in. 3)If you're living here illegally, get legal or get out. I'm not paying for another one of your crumb-snatchers, while the goverment rapes my bank account and you don't pay income tax. But here is what's going to happen people - and I hope I'm wrong: the U.S. government (and eventually all world governments) will dissolve all national borders, whether we like it or not, in favor of the New World Order that G.W.'s daddy was talking about on the late '80s and early '90s. If you doubt this, take a look at what's been happening to your state sovereignty over the past 20 plus years. What, you didn't notice? Most of us didn't. And worse yet we didn't care. Anyway, I'm ranting and should probably just blog about it. What are YOU up to. I'd love to catch up! PEACE!!!
