Patrick's Story
Life
Hello from Williams Lake!
After stops at S.F.U., Quesnel, Nelson and 100 Mile House, I have been settled in Williams Lake for the past 16 years. I have been retired from radio for the past dozen years. I was elected a Williams Lake City Councillor last November, and am quite active in federal & provincial politics. I am married - second time. 2 sons, one about 30 who lives in Surrey, the other a teenager. I enjoy living in the Lake City, although at times it seems strange to be in "competition" with my old hometown of Quesnel in politics, sports, etc. Of course, it is a good-natured rivalry. I see a lot of Quesnel folks and ex-Quesnel types in Williams Lake. Plenty of people in the forest industry are transferred from Quesnel to Williams Lake or move around the region in that business.
I am a "pro-business, pro-growth, pro-development" Councillor so you 'lefties' may not care for me.
I have been involved in a lot of community activities and clubs. I only recently joined the Williams Lake Rotary Club.
Let's catch up on the past35 to 40 years - give me an e-mail shout or write me in Williams Lake at 1075 Boundary Street, V2G 3Z7 Tel: (250)398-6003.

School
After attending Glenmore Elementary School in Kelowna from Grades 1 to 3 (No kindergartens ...Expand for more
in my day), the Reid's moved to Quesnel in 1957 where I attended Quesnel Elementary (Helen Dixon School) for Grades 4 to 6. Then, as a little fellow I advanced with much trepidation to Quesnel High School, sporting my crewcut.
My first year, as an experiment an all-boys class was established with Mr. Campbell as teacher. This delayed the onset of puberty.
Thank goodness it was back to co-ed classes the following year.
I began my political career at Quesnel High School by successfully running for Students Council Vice-President, on a platform of promising more drinking fountains. I think I was in Grade 10 and it was a promise I quickly forgot upon election. Thanks to my Campaign Manager Doug Coombs.
Memorable teachers during my high school tenure included Mr. Campbell, Miss Dunseith (c'mon guys, you remember her!), Mr. Umpleby, Mr. Neufeld, Mr. Tortorelli, Mr. Lafontaine, Mr. Blackman, Mr. Ward, Ms. Bremner, and, of course, Principal Nick Keis, who recently passed away.
A highlite of high school was a Federally-funded trip to Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, a French-speaking community. I believe among the participating Quesnel students were Jess Ketchum, Ward Sanderson and Bev Boates.
I'd love to hear from Quesnel High School students from that era.
