Patrick's Story

In the event that anyone really cares, Patrick Foster is still alive and well. As many of you know, I went to the Air Force Academy after graduation. However, through my first year, I realized that there was a level to my conformity. I can do what others tell me to do, but I have a difficult time thinking the way people want me to think. Nevertheless, I left after completing my first year and returned to Albuquerque and attended UNM. In the summer of 1992, I was recruited to the Mesa Police Department in Mesa, AZ. Mesa is a suburb of Phoenix and is the 3rd largest city in AZ. During my career there, I worked Patrol, Gangs, Community Action Team and Criminal Investigations. I rose through the ranks there and supervised areas including the sex and family crimes division and our regional intelligence center. While working for MPD, I also worked for the Arizona State University Athletics Department overseeing guest relations and security for their athletic events. I retired from the Mesa Police Department (yes, retired) in may of 2015 and accepted a position over at Arizona State University and served as one of their Assistant Chiefs of Police. I lead the dedicated men and women of the Support Services Bureau and oversaw all law enforcement efforts for the Sun Devil athletic events. I have also been blessed to serve with the Fiesta Bowl Committee, assisting them with operations for the Fiesta Bowl and Cactus Bowls that we host each year here in the Valley of the Sun. 20, I received a phone call that cleared the path for my ultimate goal and dream job. My name had shown up on the radar of a principal decision maker in the sports world and they wanted to talk to me about a position within their organization. I now serve as the Vice President of Security for the Arizona Cardinals where I oversee all safety and security aspects for ownership, team, coaches, staff, facilities and travel. Its a 7 days/week job from the end of July through the middle of January, but when you love what you do the time flies by. On the personal side, I am the proud single dad of two wonderful children. I have a 24yo (yikes) daughter named Kennedy who works in physical therapy and has an adorable 2yo son. My son Grant is a senior at ASU. The three of them are truly a blessing in my life. Many will say that I don't look much different than I did in high school. I can say that my personality is pretty much the same, but probably with a bit of an edge. My personal mantra is "A man can never have enough shoes, watches or cologne" and trust me, I live by that motto. My connections to Albuquerque are few these days. After my daughter was born, my parents retired and moved out here and sadly both passed away recently within a month of one another after 59 years of marriage. My main connection back to school was CD Garrett who also passed away prematurely. A few of my boys from Lobo basketball and football live out here and we sometimes talk about our days at UNM and in Albuquerque.
