Patti's Story

FYI, THE BLACK yearbook (JUST PUT ON WEBSITE 10/20/15) and BEIGE/GREEN 1965 LAMPLIGHTER YEARBOOKs are MINE... SEE YOUR LOVING REMARKS...LOL My story way below. My dear Sister passed away in 2015. She fell off a ladder, head trauma and hemorrhage. Shocking and sad. Her daughter Debbie..was the JOY of her life. Can't mention Carol without Debbie..! Carol was an amazing Mom too.. Carol and I did just about everything 2gether through H.S. & pretty much till I moved to Miami at age 21 with Donna Guzlas. Year after I moved back though and got married, Carol's family and mine got 2gether to share lots more fun. My sKids and Debbie got along great too. Think Debbie had a crush on my sSon. Carol always made you feel special when we got 2gether with her fun family. See my special Carol Ann Lois photo album. After I moved back and even though we lived in diff State's (she moved or we did) for almost 20 yrs. we got 2gether with Carol, Dennis and Debbie to continue creating the great memories, my sKids loved getting 2gether and so lucky to be invited to stay with Carol,Dennis & Deb occasionally when they lived at Lake Como. We'd travel to MN when we could, as it was easier for my mom, since Mom, Cathy and Debbie lived in Minnesota and easy for Carol to travel to MN for family get 2gethers. Will always remember prank'n our nephew Andrew on holiday games..! Cathy and her husband mixed it up one year with a different Christmas feast. Carol and Cathy (and their husbys) were such good cooks! I didn't get that gene..! Actually just found out the oven isn't a bread box..!! We'd head over for some dancing and wow..Debbie had some moves..course, we ol' sisters showed her some good moves too, Debbie never saw THE PONY OR MASH POTATO..!!!..LOL The feasts at Carol's house were amazing too.. We drove to Wisconsin lots for holidays and BBQ's, we'd stay at a hotel, in MN, indoor poolside and the kids had a ball, and head in to hotel bar later with the kids (weBad) for more fun. It snowed heavily before they left and we're all in the parking lot trying to find Mom's friend's car..too funny. Carol and Dennis moved to home on or close to lake again, always fun. OctoberFests, SummerFests, FestiveUS, when we all were 2gether, everyday was Christmas..! Sadly, after my husby got transferred to Florida, didn't see as much of Carol or Debbie. Celebrated Mom's 70ith bday in Florida, she and Debbie could not make it. We shared lots of shenanigans with the girls in the KinzieHood; Sherri, Bonnie, Marilyn, Joanne, Jill, Gina, Donna, Barbara Wisecki (married Matt Thomas..where are they?) and, remember Mavis & Ranora anybody?, they moved before we went to Kelly, but mostly, Chris, Darlene & Lynn. Spent a lot of time at Mavis & Ranora Bradley's house, close to Linda and Sherry's. Their mom was an invalid, remember that and we'd spend some overnites. Think Mavis and Ranora had other sisters too. Wonder where they are today. One time we did a SayOnnSah (ck.sp.)...trying to get a rise out of one of us. One of us laying down, arms folder over chest, others all around with 3 fingers under her and going around, saying in turn, "she looks sick, she looks sick" "she is sick she is sick, she is sick." Suddenly, think it was Mavis, who's father had recently died, became semi-hysterical, thinking she saw her dad or something? Wow..shook us all up, we were done with that..! Remember Friday nite socials ..Jimmy Cullen, on stage singing "the lion sleeps 222222222 nite" (saw that recently in concert..oh how sweet). Remember our teacher in grade school, Mrs. Garon..we were not very nice to her. Remember Tony Romano, running for class President ?, starting his campaign speech with, MY NAME..IS TOEEEE NEE ROMANO..!" WE LOVED IT. Remember most popular couples..Sherry & Jack, Bonnie & Marty, Linda and Bob..(sadly, I heard Marty died young?). Remember walking home with Jill & Gina, who perfected the "walking back side kick in your butt." they were also known as POE AND ACK.. Can't remember what they nicknamed Carol and I..am sure it was a doozie..LOL Am sure all remember the class trip to see WEST SIDE STORY...OMG..GEORGE CHAKARIS..!! As Linda liked to refer to herself, "stone fine." And how bout the senior trip? Chris/Shelley ..OMG, did we get lucky. 2day's world might have been diff. Chaperons checking room ..one of us hid in bathroom..they were not happy with us. Holding on to Chris while she hung out the window, attempting to secure some soda from the fellahs on the floor below. Didn't we tie sheets 2gether to reach em? oy and vey.. Knocking on room door across from us, prompting them to call us and voillah, SHELLEY (Chris) was born. THEN KELLY, a few of us remember NOT getting off the bus and somehow ended up DOWNTOWN..OMG..guess we nodded off!! First time worried about truant officer ..got over that..LOL Shopping downtown..who remembers that..another story..what happened downtown stay'd downtown. REMEMBER THE PROM? NEITHER DO I...LOL Know some of you are still with your prom dates..totally kewl..!! EVERYTIME YOU GO TO A CONCERT and their playing our tunes..does it tug at your hearts too. WE WERE THE BOMB..!! didn't know it then..LOL Everybody loves the songs we grew up with.. And the lyrics..OMG. "He's a rebel" one of my heartbreakers. Had a crush on Guy Macino who was sent to reform school...and would I belt that song.. so real then..eGads.. way too funny..course, we so related to all the songs then, didn't we..LOL Bunch of us wanted to live at Marina Towers. course, couldn't afford it alone. Gona grab what we could from home and then, whoever had a date would bring home a doggie bag so we all could eat..! Ahh, we had a great plan..!! Now, kinddah wish we would..bet it would have been fun. Planning process sure was..! Oh, remember we weren't allowed in any fellahs cars (well, Carol and I anyway)...gosh, we got around that.. Who remembers Al Pelligrino? (CHRISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS..),, Remember our strolls along Archer Ave., wait'n for the toots..course, always involved food, Italian Beef or Five Points Restaurant for choc. cream pie (sometimes, in our face..remember Linda..LOL).. oooo, we were BaaaaaaD... Remember rumble at THE FREEZE after one of the gals in the local hood had a water gun filled with coke and shot it at us and hit Linda's faux suede jacket.. CROSSED OVER THE LINE..! We challenged them..if I remember right, very few of them or us showed up...? Remember Milton Kool.."Milty"... Carol and I almost lived at Chris's house. Always someone to have fun ...Expand for more
with anytime of day or nite. Chris's folks loved their kids friends' too. We jumped in the car and would go to Downers Grove College, Chris's sister came along too.. We all were all in lockStep..!! Will always remember when Chris and her dad came to our rescue when I got a moth caught in my ear. Mom and Dad weren't home. Carol tried to draw it out, telling me to put my head on kitchen table and she pulled the light fixture (remember those in the day) closer. Moth went wild in my ear.. Chris saved the day..!! After it was flushed out, Chris wanted to BRONZE it...ohhhhhhhhhhh..what a memento..SHOW AND TELL FOR SURE.. would so love to have it ...LOL Mom was not home from beauty school classes and, if I remember, Chris, Linda and probably Darlene and course Carol, made a crime scene out of our kitchen with ketchup and hid on me. For some reason I got home later and walked in to find NO ONE BUT KETCHUP IN SIGHT..!! Course, I panic'd and immediately called the police screaming in the phone.... NOTTTTTTTTTTTTT..prank'd em back. they were gona pay..! Always parties going on b4 some parents got home from work, but we always cleaned up so they never knew. Just that one time when one of the boys or more, drank Linda's dad's vodka. Put water in the bottle and was not a happy camper when Linda's dad served..!! Linda caught it on that one. Home parties..Chris's house again..the best..! Remember Darlene had the first car. Remember some club we went to on Archer Avenue that had coffins and skeletons..?? Love Carol's signature "Miss America 1966" in my yearbook and loving remarks..!! Wonder what I wrote. She was a hoot.. Give Carol credit, as after I moved to Florida with the old people (safer), she moved downtown Chicago sharing an apartment with friends, one was in the heart of Rush Street. WTG. Remember the days 6 of us would go to Rush Street..falling in love with bartenders or band members..LOL Alas, we were G.U.D. (did we get lucky or what..!) (geographically undesirable). What fun though, The Lodge, Mother Tuckers, McGuires, Googies for breakfast or a stop on the way home for an Italian beef..! What happened at Rush St. stayed at Rush Street..! I know Carol also took a trip to Florida with a friend, before I moved ..that's another story too..! Our family and friends always knew where Carol's heart was. As the saying goes, she wore her heart on her sleeve. Never gone, will treasure forever all the fun and loving memories of all our escapades together with our great friends and families..!! R.I.P. YOU will be dearly missed! Say hey to Mom, Dad and Brian, and the rest of the family..! Here's my story and am stick'n to it..! Moved to Miami with Donna Guzlas where I spent my 20's.. Was a legal secretary, altho, never wanted to be a secretary. Thank you Mr. Brenteen (ck.sp.) at Kelly for great shorthand class, who knew..! Great position with great law firm and being in paradise, a dream. No one thought I'd last a year..! Then, moved back to Chicago when I was 30, still single and still love'n it..! Several jobs; starting with temps all over downtown and elsewhere, property management and then, Seagram's for 15 years. One girl office and, I was the girl.!! Great company, great perks, amazing people. Also, became realtor, part-time (hard to do part-time). Met the love of my life in Chicago in 1980. He's retired now from FORD, who transferred us from Chicago to Michigan and then to Lake Mary, Florida. We're now in Palm Coast, 1.5 miles from beach. House overlooking pond so we can watch our favorite gators, deer, birds and gopher turtles at play. Did learn the "zig zag shuffle" in case gator ever decides to come close to house..! Bambi and MomBambi love grazing back there too and, an occasional bobcat or panther..! No more squirrels..thank goodness..would drive our dog crazy in Lake Mary. We both kept our real estate licenses up (a miracle I always passed the test the first time) until a couple years ago. We were on "inactive" status, doing referrals only. Market changed and became very expensive to maintain license. Have two wonderful stepKids living in Cincinnati, Ohio and one granddaughter who is 15 now. So blessed they are doing so well and are very happy. Very blessed to have travelled overseas. Love Italy the best, altho, most incredible was our trip to Lourdes in France ..grew up watching the movie "Song of Bernadette" and so believed and yet, didn't seem real, but when you get there, a most overwhelming experience flooding you with joy..! Actually experienced a healing in my foot after soaking it in the healing spring. My husband says we have to go back for my knees now..! Had a few health issues, trying to save my knees right now..!! Altho, hear knee replacement these days is amazing!! Not in a hurry to do yet..! Reduced to recumbent bike and swimming or surgery sooner.. Can't complain about health issues, have done so much volunteering with Hospice, American Can, Homeless Shelters, Meals on Wheels, etc., that, I count my blessings. A friend fell recently and broke her neck and is a "tetraplegic." You think of many things happening as you get older, but, NOT THAT. Still just can't wrap my head around that..just can't believe it. She always said your life can change in a minute..so tragic. So much to do in our community, 2000 homes. Maybe you've heard of THE VILLAGES in central Florida. Huge senior community, fastest growing in country, I think. Well, I always joke, we are the "mini Villages" without the STDs.."...LOL.. Understand they are very active seniors..! BoooooooooYahhhhhhhhhh...! Lady Blah Blah's gona land this plane for now, rushing out for my Botox and Juvederm injections..for sure for sure!!Hey, nothing wrong with a little filler...LOL ....just back to classmates, will look forward to reading "your story" ...lotsa blessings to all of you dear old (not that old) friends.. ps: I posted a lot of old class pictures, senior trip pictures w/Chris Urbaniak, Marilyn Sagmeister, my sis Carol and I, but thought pix would download in order posted. Unfortunately you'll have to see more current pix b4 you get to the "blast from the past ones".. Would love to see some more old pix from Byrne or Kinzie if anyone has. Oh yeah, just a funny.. I went to 3 proms..you can see the same dress.. Think mom spent $60 and we had to get our money's worth in those days. Course, had to take the dress in and let it out...LOL Those were those kinddah days for me (hmmmmmmmmm...still are..!! some things never change I reckon..!). Blessings to you all.
