Patti's Story

Patti is from Palm Harbor, Florida. Patti's schools include Osborn High School. More about Patti:"The story Mom wanted to publish....."Minnows On My Dust Mop" Let me tell you.... while I await my prospective Collies "Pepper and Pike".... Having fun making useful things for others - "treasures". My Mother, Ruth Elizabeth, was an artist and a beautiful seamstress.I learned alot from her. I admired her artistic qualities that came automatic and naturally to her. Whether it be her handwriting, music, painting, drawing and playing a piano by ear with pitch memory. It was not that way for me. With hard work, one of my accomplishments as a young teenager was playing the cello at a concert in front of an audience. When Mom was in her early twenties, She worked in the Detroit City Civic Symphony Orchestra/Arts Department during the Works Project Administration (WPA) copying music for Valter Poole of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. During the WWII era, she sewed Winter coats for my older brother and sisters from adult clothes, cutting them down to fit their tiny little bodies. She would explain how she accomplished, the cutting down and assembling to small sizes. There are family pictures with them wearing these master pieces. Another wonderful memory I have is my Mom sharing with me her desire to pursue drawing. She admired Mr.Walt Disney. She would have loved to have been given the opportunity to work for him as one of his illustrators. If I could have granted her wish, I would have in a heartbeat. The stories we obtain from our parents with their word pictures, is truly a legacy that we carry with us throughout our life. We all share this in common. Yes, this too is a "treasure". I watched my Mom sew doll clothes for my Betsy McCall Dolls and than I would try to copy her work. She liked detail. A fur collar on Tammy's Ice Skating outfit, or the hand knitted Angora Sweaters with little balls on the ties for Betsy. (By the way, all my dolls were named "Suzie" as I didn't want to show fav...Expand for more
oritism and hurt any one of their feelings!!) As a young girl, I worked in an exclusive woman's clothier shop "On Top of The Hill" in Grosse Pointe, Michigan called "Margaret Rice". They sold one of a kind "Pauline Trigere" dresses that were known for their tailored cuts. This job sparked an interest to work in fashion merchandising, but this dream never materialized as I wanted. I typically choose bright and happy colours when I sew for my friends, Using 100 percent cottons, wool, Velvet and corduroy's in my creations. I love the feel of well made quality fabrics in my hand. A little bit more of my character.........history told in advance.......... So, now that I am retired from my professional career, I reminisce and make hand made items, that I fondly call "useful things" for my friends. I also await for the paradise earth promised us in the bible that is soon to come upon the entire inhabited earth. And, at that time, I will be able to have as my pet companions two beautiful rough sable and white & tri colour collies whom I will name - "Pepper and Pike". They will run, play and romp in the green grasses free from harm. I than, at that time, I know for a certainty, that my own hope will be realized of having a family all of my own to raise and share with my children Life's experiences that will never end - growing, learning, creating, loving and making the earth a true paradise as promised to each and every one of us living today. Our Heavenly Creator has promised this to us. He will do away with old age, sickness, death and our fears and worries of crime we see today. It will be gone forever. This too is a - "treasure". Oh....I almost forgot...... the treasure of the reality that is soon to come....the resurrection of my mother back to a paradise earth in a new healthy body. I am longing and anxiously await to see her again....so she can have me write our story and we can share it with you...."Minnows On My Dust Mop". You'll have to be there to know this story - a "treasure".".
