Patty's Story

Life Ok, I finally went for the bait! If there is anyone out there who is remotely interested in my life, nearly 30 years post graduation, here is the scoop. I am WONDERFUL! I am happily married (#3 after an early, stupid 1st marriage that ended in dissolution, and a long and happy 2nd marriage that ended at his death - widowhood at age 43) and living in Central Oregon, a recent move for me. That's right, I spent the first half of my life in San Diego only dreaming of what lay to the north and east of dry, smoggy, over-crowded, over-priced Southern California. Now I know - it's paradise! At present, my life is open to many possibilities. For now, I will be concentrating on writing, and continuing my work as a diversity trainer/multi-cultural educator and conflict-resolution facilitator. In addition, I was recently thrilled to have been appointed as a member of my city's arts commission, a move that I hope will allow me to become more involved in promoting arts and culture, as well as artists of all kinds, in my community. And, for those who ever wondered, I came out of my shell long ago and have been having a great time singing cabaret-style music professionally and for fun for some time now. I am sure I am not the only one for whom high school was blip in the road, rather than a peak experience.Frankly, high school for an insecure fat kid like me was tough. I couldn't wait to get out of there, grow up and blossom into what I was sure I could become. The only saving grace was Madison's wonderful music program, a place where I dared to dream and express my soul. Any former singers out there? What ever ...Expand for more
happened to our wonderful choral director, Mr. ????? His name escapes me at the moment, but I can tell you, his training regimen, which held us all to the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, has served me well through the years. If there is anyone that has a memory of me at all, I would love to hear it - good or bad. Though I still carry the memory of that kid around with me, she - that old high school me - is so foreign as to almost be a poignant, but lovable character in a book. With my 46-year old hindsight and broader understanding of the world, I can look upon her with great affection and forgiveness now. She - that high-school me - was simply on a journey through one of life's many stages that had to be survived. God! I wouldn't go through it again for love nor money.Still, after all these years, I am in close contact with two best girlfriends from high school - Andrea and Vicki. Who'd of thunk it? Although all 3 of our lives have taken some very unexpected twists we still stay connected and still, I believe, find some comfort in knowing someone who knows us from that far back. The more I travel and meet folks from everywhere, the more I realize what a rare gift it is to have stayed in contact with someone for so many years and for that relationship to have added to my life, rather than detracted from it. I am truly blessed in all of the ways you can imagine. I hope that life has offered you the same opportunities for happiness and that you jumped on most, if not all of them! If not... it's not too late! Get out there! You have 1/2 a life - the best part - left and time's wasting!
