Patty's Story
I like to keep busy....
After High School I went to ULowell to get my BA in English. After that I spent about 10 years in the business world working and traveling a lot while I continued my education at night. I now have my Masters degrees in Writing and Literature, and another in Education.
I teach English at Pinkerton Academy in NH--writing and British Literature--I love it. As I mentioned above, the decade prior to that I worked for a business-to-business publishing company in NH as a Director of Conferences & Exhibits - this was a pretty fun job. I got to produce technology conferences and events worldwide - but that type of schedule burns you out quickly (even though it's fun!). I also worked as a Marketing Communications writer before moving into events.
I'm glad I got to travel to so many places before my husband and I decided to start our family. We had our 1st child in August of 2004--a little boy named Andrew. He, too, is a redhead. : ) Next came Leah in October of 2007--she's a cutie. She is stubborn with a nasty temper... I have no idea where she gets it... Kids keep you pretty busy. It really shifts your priotities and puts things in perspective.
In my spare time (!?!) I teach college courses in composition and literature at Southern NH University. I also volunteer with animal rescue programs - helping to place stray cats and/o...Expand for more
r giving pregnant stray cats a warm and safe place to have their kittens (usually in my upstairs office). Then I find homes for all of the kittens and the momma kitty too. Very rewarding, but it's always sad to see them go.
We have one cat - she was a stray we rescued. We had 3 but we lost one to leukemia and another to a coyote :(
After living in Hollis, NH for 10 years, we decided to sell our house and move back to Tewksbury. My parents are getting on in years and my dad has a myriad of health issues working against him--diabetes, kidney and heart problerms, etc. I know the grandkids keep him going--he adores them. There are more plusses than minuses--but it can be trying at times having your parents living in the next house over.
My husband, Dave, is an art guy--a computer animator. We've been married since 2002, but we've been great friends since college, so we go back about 18 years. He's a great guy and really funny. We can be goofy together. I look forward to embarrassing my kids when they get older. : )
Well - that's about it for now. Thanks for reading--take a moment to say hi. :)
I know Classmates has a thing about using external emails (they delete them when they appear in text) but if you want to drop me a line - my email address is: my first initial (p) my last name (sockey) at (the keyboard symbol) comcast (dot) net.
Cheers!
