Patty's Story

Life Since 1967 I have had a full life! Moved to Seattle and went to school, LA to play in the sun and Utah to ski. Met my husband, started a family and life goes on. Worked 12 years for San Juan Unified School Distict as a supervisor in the Drug Prevention office. Have remained active in my church and kept up many friendships from my youth. Have two wonderful sons who are both successful in their lives. No grandchildren yet. Live in same home I grew up in, finally it is paid for for the last time I hope. Love my husband and we are having fun being retired. Always ready to reconnect with old friends and check in on how life has gone for others. As August nears I find myself looking forward to our 45th reunion and then again NOT! Can not believe time has passed so quickly. Am hopeful at this reunion that all of us classmates can reconnect and a more real level. Past reunions seemed to mimic high school and many still were viewing themselves in the 'clicks' they were a part of in high school. We are way beyond that now. Will be fun to see just who everyone has become. Who we were from 1963 to 1967 is not who we are now. Hopefully we have retained some of the innocents and ideals that we believed in so much, but hopefully we have all grown up, experienced life, had our ups and downs, and are now full of wisdom and insight that would have been oh so helpful back in the 60's. Maybe we could have really made some major changes in the world if we knew then what we know now. Life has been good to me. Not perfect and have had my share of challenges but I have survived and in surviving have gained a lot of wisdom and insight into people and especially my family and personal relationships. Things that for many years I felt were so important, have little meaning now. Money I have found is the great evil thing of life. Something we all need, want and can use and always want more of, but it also makes people sometimes do, say and become someone they really are not or who they really don't want to be. I'm so grateful I have never been into material things. I say that however I have spent a lot of time and money trying to get what I thought would make me happy only to find out just how little I actually need. What I need most is the knowledge of knowing beyond a doubt that I'm a good person and I do good things for others and my life is full of people who bring me joy and happiness, fulfillment and challenge me to be better. I have a sure knowledge of where I came from, why I'm here and what I am suppose to be ...Expand for more
doing while I am here, and where I'll eventually go. My faith in God and His eternal plan for all of us is the basis of how I determine what I do and in large part who I am and who I am working to become. For some that may seem stupid, but I have found in my life when I wasn't using the above as a basis for helping me make decisions in my life, that I ended up off track being non productive and not very happy. I have a great family! Husband, two sons, and a step son and daughter who have given my 5 wonderful granddaughters who are all now grown and one has finally given me my first great GRANDSON! My two sons are apart of the 21st century and as of yet have not felt that marriage and children are something that will help them with their goals. Hope that changes soon because I really would like to meet my grandchildren that someday hopefully they will have. They are great men who are working hard to make their own way in this very messed up world. At least they are not sitting back and waiting for someone to hand things to them, they are working to get whatever they need or want on their own. Was retired but was bored so I started a new career that was just suppose to be a very part time commitment but has ended up being way more. I started out being an in home caregiver, but advanced to doing the business part of the business instead of the hands on caring, and now I pretty much am running the business for the owner as she has a lot of other commitments at this time. I love the work and it is great that I can be at home doing most of it but someday hopefully sooner than later, I really will retire and be more free to do things I love to do and discover other things I am meant to do. Since high school I've had many adventures and opportunities to learn and grow and experience life and take risk that I now wonder why in the world I did that. Am I proud of everything I have done? Absolutely now but I have learned from those things just like the better ones and I value those lessons. Enough for now. I really hope to see you at our reunion that is only about 4 or 5 weeks away and that we have a change to really connect in a grown up kind of way, letting go of all those things that in our youth made us too scared to learn about each other. We are all grown up now and we have all experienced some of very major changes in the country and the world and we've lived through it and even learned from it. We really do have 'history' to talk about as well as our lives over the past 45 years. See you soon.
