Paul's Story
Life
I learned many years ago that I was born on the same day as the first gorilla born in captivity--Kolo, a female at the Cincinnati Zoo. She and I were not switched at birth, whatever you may here to the contrary. A couple of years ago, I learned I was also born on the same day as Tom Hanks, the actor. He and I were not switched at birth, either, although you'd have to ask him or Kolo to be sure they were not switched.
My childhood was largely uneventful, other than the time I was abducted by aliens and had chips placed in all my vital organs (but not my brain, since they claimed I don't use it much, so it isn't very vital).
Then I went to school, was obsessed with dinosaurs, collected fossils, and read a LOT. I started to study languages.
Then I went to college, was obsessed with trying to meet the "right" woman, collected books, and still read a LOT.
Then I entered "adult" life, was obsessed with eating, became a fossil, and still read a LOT.
I now AM a dinosaur, have my eating a little more under control, don't worry about meeting people, and still read a LOT. At least one thing didn't change.
Meanwhile, Kolo did whatever gorillas do in their private lives and Tom Hanks made a lot of movies, one of which (Castaway), I wish I hadn't seen. Too depressing, and one part is too gruesome. Ick.
School

unt all of them. Which teacher inspired me most? Most of them. (Seriously, I liked almost all of them a lot. Mr. Baerwolf may have been my favorite favorite, at least from high school, though.) If I could do it over again? Most of it would be the same, but I wouldn't get beaten up twice a week all through fourth and fifth grades. I wouldn't make a fool of myself every time I tried to tell a girl I liked her in a romantic way, and I'd like to have at least NORMAL abilities in physical education, not be the one everyone knew would fail at half the tasks. Most of it, I wouldn't change at all, though.
College
I went to Eastern Michigan University for my bachelor's and master's degrees, then went to Wayne State University for my doctorate. I dropped out of college for several years during my bachelor's program, and went continuously when I came back.
It was a depressing, moody time for me. I made lots of friends, but the friendships didn't last, for the most part. I read a lot, studied a few languages, and took a lot of long walks.
Workplace
I've worked in a lot of different positions--seated, standing, walking, crouching, and even occasionally squatting.
I've also been a janitor, a household servant, a telephone salesperson, a factory worker, a lawn-care person, a typist, an editor, an office worker, and a research assistant. Now I teach bored students.
