Paul's Story
First, go on and post pictures of yourself... I did. Your fellow classmates don't care if your hair all fell out (or as mine has the last few years, become sun-bleached from too much outdoors) or your butt's too big. Then and Now photos. Go on, just do it.
Life (updated 10-09)
I live in Morgan City, LA, with my wife Peggy, who I met while attending La. Tech. We have four children. My oldest son is a Sgt. in the U.S. Army, married. I have another son and daughter out of school, in their 20's now. My youngest daughter, 19, is studying at LSU.
Work
I work as a Service Supervisor for Halliburton Energy Services in Houma, LA. Have been with Halliburton for 31 years.
Other activities
Last year I was licensed as an Amateur Radio operator. I sat for and passed all of the tests in one session to obtain the Amateur Extra license, assigned the call sign AE5JU. Next time they decide to throw a hurricane I'll be better prepared. I am now a Volunteer Examiner, which means I give tests for amateur radio licenses.
I am still very active (I never quit) in music and have a number of saxophone and audio articles online. In addition, I operate Professional Music Accessories, providing...Expand for more
high end products and services to professional musicians such as the saxophonists and horn sections of Prince, Huey Lewis & the News, Alicia Keys, the Temptations, the Eagles, Kirk Whalum, Dave Matthews Band, to name just a few.
My musical bio:
Paul R. Coats earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in Saxophone, from Louisiana Tech University in 1974. There he studied Saxophone with James Keene (recently retired as Director of Bands/Professor of Music at the University of Illinois) and Doug Graham (retired Professor of Woodwinds, University of South Carolina).
Paul studied composition with Dr. Dick Goodwin, noted jazz arranger/composer at the University of South Carolina.
Paul currently performs on saxophones from the tiny Eb Sopranino to the huge Bb Bass Saxophone. He conducts clinics for student groups, and performs regularly with the Bayou Saxophone Ensemble in nearby Thibodaux, LA. He is known worldwide for the more than two hundred works he has composed or arranged for Saxophone Quartet or Ensemble. Paul is also a long-time Clinician/Consultant for Runyon Products (woodwind mouthpieces and acc), Antigua Winds, and several other music industry manufacturers.
