Paul's Story
Life
After HS I enlisted in the Army and served in the 281st Assault Helicopter Company as a Helicopter Door Gunner in Vietnam. I returned to the US after being wounded in Oct 1968. After recovering I attended the PreLaw Program at NMSU (1971)and got married to my first wife, Sharon. We had my first son, Joseph Paul. After my divorce I returned to Lockport and entered the insurance business, married my second wife, Sue, and opened my own agency. We had my second son, Paul Jay in 1979. I sold the agency in 1989 and was divorced from Sue. I then attended Flight School and received my aeronautical ratings, Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor. I also finished my Bachelor Degree in Business. I worked as a Flight Instructor and traveled extensively throughout the US. in the early Nineties. I was married to my third wife, Eve (1994), and we had my third son, Jamie Paul in 1996. We were subsequently divorced. I finished my MBA in 2000 and worked as a Clinical Therapist in a Forensic Mental Health Unit in Wellsville, NY until 2002. I retired in 2002 and now live happily and single in Franklinville, NY. Workplace
My work experience includes such things as a helicopter door gunner, a clinical therapist, a case manager for the disabled, an insurance agent, a flight instructor and commercial pilot, dog control officer for a couple of townships, a substitute teacher, and a builder. It has been interesting to say the least.
Military
I joined the US Army in July 1967 at the age of 17. I trained first as a soldier at Ft. Dix, NJ and and then as an avionics technician in Ft. Gordon,GA. In Vietnam I was assigned to the 281st Assault Helicopter Company based in Nha Trang. The primary mission of the 281st was to provide rotary wing support to forces throughout South Vietnam. The 281st worked in direct support of the 5th Special Forces Group in many capacities. In May 1968 I volunteered to be a door gunner on a UH-1D helicopter and served in that capacity until I left the country in October 1968. I spent time in Ft. Devens, MA recuperating from gunshot wounds received in Vietnam. After that I was sent to the US Army Combat Surveilence and Electronic Warfare School at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. I received an honorable discharge in July 1970.
