Paul's Story

The last time I attended a high school reunion was back in 1995, our 10 year reunion. At the time I wrote a quick bio, a pity it wasn'™t saved (by me or anybody else), for I'd love to read what I then wrote. Anyway, for those first 10 years: After a fun summer, an 'apres' high school party more or less, I attended San Diego State University. I first started as a business major, but ended with a BS in Biology. After a quick start at Scripps Research, La Jolla, in a hybrodoma lab, I left the lab world behind and ventured into the forests of the Pacific Northwest (Washington state) as an ecologist. After a year of almost total enjoyment, I left my first wife behind, this to achieve total enjoyment. And, then I started my masters of biology degree at Washington State University. Well, that was a succinct account of my first 10 years after leaving the nest in Los Gatos, and perhaps the next 20 years will be as succinct! Anyway, after I finished my MS in Biology, I joined the Peace Corps for 2.5 years where I served as a Parks & Wildlife volunteer in Jordan (J1). I was stationed at Mujib Nature Reserve and gave my heart, blood and soul to this adventure -a truly remarkable experience. When I left the Peace Corps (this was after the summer of '™99), I traveled northward though Lebanon, Syria and Turkey before I hit many/most of the eastern and western European countries. Chance encounters met other chance encounters and before I knew it I was again married, this time to a Belgian beauty. By the time the 20 year LGHS reunion hit, I was living and working in Belgium, and our first son was keeping me awake late at night. This was a later begin to having kids than I had initially planned and expected from life, but then again some things just take time. Since 2005, life hasn'™t changed as much, perhaps what'™s best if one wishes to remain in a stable re...Expand for more
lationship. Three years after our son was born, our daughter came along to ruin his carefree and easy ways. These days I'™m trying to stay financially afloat in Belgium as an ecologist, but I'™m hoping that my love of writing, Belgian beer, ecology and culture will bring further opportunities for the future -“ let's hope so! And, now back to the info this Classmates site nabbed from Facebook (not always correct!): Paul is from Los Gatos, California. Paul's schools include Los Gatos High School. Paul later attended San Diego State University (Biology) . Paul works(ed) at Sometimes I Feel Like A Nut, Sometimes I Don't, Arcadis. Music Paul likes includes Carlos Santana, Led Zeppelin Official, Guido Belcanto. Books Paul likes include Catch-22, Lord Of The Rings, Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Movies Paul likes include The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Rocky Horror Picture Show. TV shows Paul likes include 'Allo 'Allo!, CSI Vegas, True Blood. One of Paul's favorite quotes is:"With just 2 km to go, my body started falling apart, piece by piece, as if it was an over the hill jalopy losing doors, exhaust pipe and windshield; and then the accelerator failed and I slowed almost to a stop. But, I couldn't stop. A slower pace, another extra 10 minutes, but what's another 10 minutes if I've already been walking for 23 hours!". More about Paul:"When you cross the finishline of the Doddentocht, you're given a pineapple and a small, trinkety medal. This year I also received a Bornem Tripel Doddentocht edition from the Moortgaat brewery. But, nothing is better than hearing the cheers of encouragement from those standing along the last 500 meters. Many wives and children. Many drunken men, too. But, the best are from those watching who you can tell who have walked the 100 km's before - it's in their eyes, that understanding of what you've just gone through...for a pineapple.".
