Paul's Story
Note from Pďaul: I spent 2 years in the Army and served with the military police. I spent a year in Vietnam where I earned 2 Army Commendation medals and a meritorious unit citation for action during the Tet Offensive. After leaving the Army I obtained employment at Ford Motor Credit Company and worked as a senior accountant. In August of 1970 I married my high school sweetheart and the Love of my life, Becky Bashore, (THS class of 67) She is as beautiful and vibrant today as the day I married her 53 years ago. Our son Jeff was born in June 1973. He also graduated from THS in 1991 and was the class Valedictorian. He graduated from Albion College and The University of Chicago medical school. He is working as a Neuro Interventional Radiologist in Minneapolis and is marred to a Head and Neck Cancer Surgeon. They have 3 children. Our daughter, Jennifer was born in 1975 and also graduated from THS in 1992. She was Salutatorian of her class and attended the University of Michigan and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. senior scientist at Pfizer in Portage and is married to a senior scientist who also works at Pfizer. They live in Portage and have 2 children. I graduated from Wayne State University in 1975 with a degree in Education. In September 75 I took a job as an elementary teacher in Gibraltar School District. In September 1977 I took a new job in Woodhaven as a Middle School Teacher. While working there I earned 2 Master's Degrees from Eastern Michigan University. I worked as both a teacher and guidance counselor. I retired from Woodhaven in 2003. My wife Becky worked as a 1st grade teacher at Anderson Elementary School in Trenton and also retired in 2003. In my 30’s I started running to get in shape. I have run 2 marathons, 2 half-marathons, 2 triathalons, and numerous 10Ks. I still run 4 or 5 miles every day. Becky and I moved to Portage in 2010 to be closer to our daughter Jennifer and her family. We really enjoy traveling and have traveled all over the world. We also make numerous trips to Minneapolis to visit our son and his family.
