Paul's Story

Back living in Newmarket after many years away. The little town has grown unbelievably. Where you used to recognise almost every face you met, now it's a pleasant surprise to see someone you know. Gail and I are still married after all these years and I'm sure she'll be rewarded for her patience and forbearance. Gail is retired but still leads a busy life. We are enjoying kids and grand kids and even a great grand child. I had been retired from the advertising business but three years ago I took what was to be a one year contract to run the North York Hockey League that has extended into another chapter in my working life. I have always enjoyed kids and sports and this has been a pleasant diversion. It gets me out of the house everyday and out of Gail's hair so everyone benefits. I still referee hockey and umpire ball in the summers. I can cover up my grey hair with a hat or a helmet and enjoy being involved. I've met some very fine people through sport. Gail and I enjoy traveling to shorter destinations throughout the year and get down to see my sisters in California and Tennessee whenever we can. In 2110 we took a lovely cruise to England, Ireland, Scotland and France in the month of July when the office was closed. In 2011 we cruised the Mediterranean for 24 days and had a great time. In 2012 we cruised from Copenhagen to St Petersburg and back with stops in Estonia, Finland. Germany etc. We enjoy the ships and seeing the sites very much. In September we attended a reunion of the Devil's Brigade in Washington includin...Expand for more
g a reception at the Canadian Embassy and a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery. This past year has been great for family members. Our son Steve is the group publisher and editor of the new Sportsnet magazine which has been a very popular success in its first year of existence. Steve, himself an award-winning journalist, has assembled a top-notch team of writers, editors, and photographers that produce a high-quality publication that ranks among the very best on the news stand. Steve is married and he and his wife Erin have two beautiful kids, Avery and Scott. Our granddaughter, Ashley, was married in September in a beautiful ceremony at Castle Loma. She is well established in her career as an autism therapist and looks forward to a very bright future. Her sister Emily is in her last year at Georgian College and sister Britney is busy raising our great-granddaughter Emma. I don't get on this site very often but it is always nice to see names that I recognise from the old NHS. I had a lot of fun during my school years (probably too much). The school building is long gone but the memories will last forever. I enjoy hearing how everyone is doing and the adventures that they have experienced since those memorable days at Newmarket High when we were all trying so hard to find ourselves and to see where we might find our opportunities. I consider myself very lucky in how my life has turned out and also for the valuable grounding we got from teachers and friends at NHS. Regards to Everyone, Paul
