Paul's Story
After high school I started working for a customshouse broker. Been working in the import and export field ever since. Married Marsha Balicki in 1988. Christopher arrived in 1989. Alyssa in 1991. We moved out to Algonquin in 1997.
Marsha works at United Airlines, so we have had the pleasure of many trips over the years. We've been to; Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Cancun, Alcapolco, Caymans, basically anywhere there's a beach.
In 2002 I picked up my first big toy, a 79 corvette. It's a POS but it looks cool.
Dad died in 2001. Mom still lives at the house in Maywood. I visit once or twice a month and do a few chores to keep the place presentable.
I spent 11 years at Motorola til I got icksnayed in 2006. Unemployed for 14 months. That was a depressing period. But I'm grateful for the opportunities to visit faraway lands like China, Japan, and England.
Now I work as a regulatory compliance and logistics manager for a antenna manufacturer in Bloomingdale. When I'm not working, I try to stay active. I ...Expand for more
play golf frequently and badly. I play tennis when my body allows me. I've been playing racquetball for almost 30 years. No more tournaments, but it's a great workout. This past year I realized my 35 year old dream of being a rock and roll star. I picked up a guitar and I practice 3-4 nights a week. I can now play a number of songs that somewhat resemble actual songs.
As for the kids, Chris is a junior at NIU. Yes, he was there during the shooting. Not in the hall though. He was walking past the building when he witnessed a bunch of people running out of the building. He had no clue until he got back to his dorm. He played hockey all 4 years of high school. Wish he still did as we enjoyed watching and cheering.
Alyssa is my beautiful daughter. I'm bummed she doesn't play softball anymore. She was a damn good player despite me being her coach. She is a senior at Jacobs, and trying to figure out which college is right for her.
I am grateful to be their father, and very proud of them.
Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
