Paul's Story
I have been growing Methodist churches since I left the golf business twenty years ago. I either work on older churches or start new churches from scratch. It is a great deal of work, but very rewarding. I made more money in the golf business but I had a feeling of emptiness.
The thing I really like about the church is the kids. They say amazing things during the children's sermon. They really do pay attention during the sermons. And they do ask insightful things.

other thing I like is the stuff they do not teach you in seminary: I have become an excellent plumber at my churches, or I accidentally set my robe on fire when I was doing the Lord's Supper, of how much time I spend listening to seasoned believers, or answering the "why is God mad at me" questions, or doing a child's funeral.
I had cancer thirty years ago, and now my wife is finishing chemo. It is very depressing. I wish I was a better pastor.
