One of Paul's favorite quotes is:"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. * Ben Franklin We're against society, authority, and anything else that ends in Y. *Johnny Rotten When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion - Robert Pirsig Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. * Robert J. Hanlon The surest indicator of a religion in crisis is an expanding list of things forbidden. * Ralph Peters The American media manufactures consent. * Noam Chomsky I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use. * Galileo Galilei Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear. * Thomas Jefferson Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it with religious conviction. * Blaise Pascal "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." * Herman Goering, at the Nuremberg trials All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit. * Thomas Paine "An important art of politicians is to find new names for institutions which under old names have become odious to the public" - Charles Maurice de Talleyrand It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. ...Expand for more
~Aristotle Change only takes place through action, not through meditation and prayer. --The Dali Lama “The Americans have need of the Telephone, but we do not. England has plenty of messenger boys.” - Sir William Preece, Chief Engineer, British Post Office "Corporation. Noun: an ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility" - Ambrose Bierce "Religions are violent, irrational, intolerant, allied to racism and tribalism and bigotry, invested in ignorance and hostile to free inquiry, contemptuous of women and coercive toward children." - Christopher Hitchens "Is God willing to prevent evil but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him god?* Epicurus Religion has been founded on the fear of the many and the cleverness of a few - Napolean Bonepart It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. -- Thomas Jefferson". More about Paul:"Moo there! :=8) I have worked as an archaeologist for 20 years, moostly in the Middle Atlantic region. I am originally from Wilmington, Delaware, and now make my home in Newport News, Virginia. In my spare time I am a photographer and artist, I collect antique books and art prints, and I enjoy reading, writing, and film. I also happen to collect really bad old monster and horror moovies (MST3K-level), and , if you haven't noticed yet, I also like cows. Its a looooong story... ;=8) I have traveled to England, Ireland, Greece, and Mexico, as well as much of the US. I am a life-long Democrat, socially liberal/financially conservative in nature. I am an atheist. I do not believe in any of the standard versions of 'god', and I highly doubt such an entity exists, especially given the total and complete lack of any evidence whatsoever to the contrary. I am an empiricist, a skeptic, and a secular humanist, and I place my faith and trust in science, logic, learning, and rational thought. I enjoy other cultures, especially when it comes to food! My favorites include Italian, Greek, Thai, Indian, Mexican, Japanese, and Chinese. I am 1/2 Italian on my father's side, and 1/2 Spanish on my mother's side. My father's people came to America in 1910 from Torino di Sangre, in the Abruzzi region of Italy. They were simple, honest farmer-folk who rasied grapes and olives. My mother's people came to America from Madrid following World War I; they were upper-middle class, well-educated, and distantly-related to King Philip's family. My parents and brother have since passed away, and now the only family I have left is my sister & her husband. I hope one day to start a family of my own, and pass down to them the stories and lore from my family.".
