Paul's Story

I grew up in Northern California, mostly around the Sacramento area, and my life in a nutshell: Elementary School: I attended King Avenue Elementary School from '76-'83 (thank goodness for the Classmates calculator LOL). I remember these times well and can name many friends and events which occurred. {Note to self: Fill in a few events here}. After "graduating" from sixth grade, I prepared myself for the big kids school, Gray Avenue Middle School. Middle School: I attended Gray Avenue from 83-85 (thanks Classmates Calc!). The two years here went by quick as it seems the new friends I had met as well as my old friends, were just a flash in my life at a tender age of 13. This is when I had to leave my childhood friends behind as my family moved to the capital of California, Sacramento, shortly after I graduated from 8th grade. It was difficult leaving my friends behind, but I had to move on. After all, my parents fed me so that was reason enough to stick with them! A growing boy needs his calories. High School: Growing and moving onward to the "big city", Sacramento was daunting. I attended Foothill High School, home of the mighty Mustangs, from 85-89. Although we did not yet have a stadium then, the school was HUGE with almost a million students, so it seemed. I met a lot of cool and interesting people and some so-so. That was life at Foothill, full of a variety of kids, from all walks of life. During high school, I would characterize myself as a quiet and studious person. My older brother is often quoted telling my co-workers: quote -I was a nerd in high school, and b...Expand for more
eing a nerd even I thought Paul was a bigger nerd than me -endquote. Thanks for your supportive words of encouragement, bro! After high school, I took a short break from the world before attending college. I was lost, dazed, and confused... yes I was 18. University: After high school, I attended UC Davis in 1990. I was majoring in Biological Sciences, since my parents had always wanted me to be a doctor. I dont know if it was the thought of dealing with human suffering, as a doctor would, or my own suffering in Organic Chemistry which persuaded me to change majors. I did change majors anyway, preferring to deal with the pains of a sick computer instead of the pains of an ill person. At about the same time, the world was catching on to this thing called the Internet, and I knew my future was in Computer Science. I spent time learning useful stuff (NOT) such as Pascal and Fortran. This landed me a job at Burger King! As luck would have it, after college, I landed a great job in the computer tech field, making lots of money without ever having any time to spend it (I guess that's what spouses are for?!) I enjoy the technical field and actually get paid for doing what I love. Hey, I could live with this. Life After College: After college, I married my college sweetheart and have 2 children. I worked in the Bay Area for many years after that, but the commute got me. Gas prices were at an all time high of almost $2.00 per gallon (gasp). So nowdays I get to work from home (mostly) - working for a very large technology company. LinkedIn: paulsingh007 Thanks for reading. -Paul Singh
