Paul's Story

See a bunch of my family photos on flickrDOTcom and search my last name. Quick summary of my life: Thrice married, three sons, Michael (1970), Erich (1974) and Paul (1985). Purposely dropped out of NtripleC in 1968 so that I could have my Draft status changed to 1A at the peak of the War in Vietnam. To avoid being a ground pounder lugging a pack through rice paddies, I joined the Navy and went to 35 countries on the destroyer USS Myles C Fox (DD-829) as a deck ape and Sonarman in the Weapons department. You can look it up on the web, and is the website I developed in 2000. Went to Vietnam anyway in the final four months of my four-year enlistment. After happily getting out of the Navy, took job as an electricians helper (read: ditch digger and laborer) and worked toward learning the electrical trade. Followed my employer to Tampa, Fl where we "electrified" about 600 apartments, a few houses and some stores in a local mall. I took a job as electrician at Humana Women's hospital as electrician; ended up managed the maintenance department. After 7 years, moved on to work for several multi-national corporations managing and selling service on commercial/industrial air conditioning/refrigeration systems. Worked for a time as manager of Carrier's International Division covering the Caribbean and Latin America. I lived and worked in Tampa and Miami until the second divorce in 2009 and moved back to Cataract City. Went back to NCCC after a 50 year sabbatical and made the Dean's List (wasn't that difficult, I found) for the 34 semester hours I took; went on to Buffalo State and continued to excel until meeting/marrying the love of my life, and moved to Tennessee in 2012, and am now only 18 semester hours fro...Expand for more
m a degree, but now retired. June and I cared for our mothers in our home for their final three years. My mom, Doris had several health issues, but died of bladder cancer in 2019 in her 92nd year; Irene, June's mom, died one week before my mom from Alzheimer disease. It was pretty hard on June and I for awhile, but worth it to have them here. Always knew that my ill-fated decision to fail in 1968 would affect my entire life but c'est la vie. Live in Mt. Juliet, TN, married to June, a lovely woman (and love of my life), whom I met on an on-line dating service in 2011. Active as an FCC Extra Class licensed Amateur Radio operator, call sign: K4PEW, And, take a gander at the web page for a local group of Hams in my new home town: 146415.net Also, did a web interview about Amateur Radio; just look up the phrase "Meet the Simplexton" on YouTube and start the video at 57 minutes. You can see the humorous music videos June and I created and produced and sometimes acted in, viewing them on my "braintrusts" channel on YouTube. As you will find, I've found lots of ways to embarrass my family on the radio and YouTube videos, but have had a lot of fun in the process. UPDATE: Had routinely done about 3,000 miles a years on my bicycle and got broadsided by a car 11/24/17; was hospitalized for 24 days with busted ribs X6, broken scapula, and a "brain bleed" (stroke) from my head hitting the windshield, which caused my to lose the use of my right leg. Through therapy, the leg came back to life, so all is well, I think, but still not sure about my brain. Glad I was wearing a helmet. I now stay off the main roads on my new bike, and do most of my fitness work on my rowing machine and other fitness stuff in the garage.
