Paul's Story

I was a graduate of Massapequa High School, class of 1961. We were the class that started in that new location in 7th grade; each year following they dropped a grade (Junior High) until it was just 9-12. In HS I was mainly what most would now call a techno-geek. Chemistry was my passion and I was involved in all of the science fairs. After graduation I went to Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and soon transferred to Arizona State University. After college I started a long career in the semiconductor industry, helping start up a number of firms. I married the first time to Pat Blankenship and we had a boy, Brian and a girl, Tara. After a divorce 13 years later, I remained single for 14 years until I came under the spell of my second wife, Janet Koval. She had one son, Matt by a previous marriage. Time has passed so quickly and I now have one granddaughter married and another who just graduated from college with honors. She did it in 3 years and on scholarships!Jan's son married in January 2016 down in Florida. I have traveled widely, skied my head off and became absorbed in mountain climbing. In 1995 I spent 5 weeks in the Himalayas, getting up to Mt. Everest but not actually climbing it. I have skied all over the world and Jan and I recently did our first helicopter ski trip in the Canadian Rockies. We now live in Nevada on our ranch where Jan has three horses whic...Expand for more
h have become her new children. We have coyotes and a flock of messy Canadian geese that make our pond home for the winter. A blue Heron and some pure white Egrets visit regularly depleting the pond of fish added obviously for their well being. Although retired, I still consult with a number of hi-tech startups and am in the San Francisco Bay area every few weeks. It is low stress and fun to learn from some brilliant young engineers and scientists. I developed a hobby and passion for mining history over the years, probably rooted in my early days treasure hunting with my Dad. In the process of researching various historical subjects, I acquired quite a library and have actually published a book of my own: "Anatomy of an Ingot". I attend western ephemera and book shows throughout the western states and give lectures at the nearby University of Nevada and various museums and historical societies. The writing bug has gotten to me and I am involved in writing three more books and a number of articles for journals and magazines. I continue to lead a full and exciting life and hopefully look forward to many more years with friends, family, grandchildren and hopefully great-grandchildren! Just won an award for the best article of the year in the Western Express Research Journal. Maybe I should have been a journalist?? Hmmn .... Maybe not! Hope to hear from you. Best, Paul
