Paula's Story
Life
Well, I have been happily married for over 22 years to my high school love, Jeff. Yes, the very same guy I was dating in high school, from the class of 1978. We have been blessed with 3 children. Our firstborn, Rebecca was a stillborn in 1988. This occurred just 3 days before we celebrated our third wedding anniversary. We have since welcomed Courtney in 1989 and Matthew in 1993. Also included in our family was our beloved beagle, Suzi who passed away after 14 years of loyalty to a family who loved her dearly.
I have been both a stay at home mom and a working mom. In 2001, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. I took the year off to spend time with my family and fight the battle against cancer. After a brief return to work, I decided that being a stay at home mom was what I wanted to do, at least for a while. My staying home lasted until January of 2008. I am now very happily employed at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church's TLC Childcare Program.

eing able to put what I learned then, and also what I learned while raising my own children to good use. I find it incredible to believe that I enjoy getting up to go to work! Funny how finding just the right employer can do that for you!
While I am now gainfully employed, I still find time to be an involved member of my community. I am a member of the First Church of the Brethren in Altoona and I began the first Relay for Life team. I also teach a Sunday school class and hold the current position of Sunday School Superintendent, as well as participate in the church choir by doing the narration. I volunteer for the American Cancer Society by supporting them and by being a team co captain for our church's Relay for Life team.
I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Whether it be reading or camping or watching a baseball or basketball game, or just watching a movie, I have learned how to appreciate life and all that it means to have been "blessed". For I truly have been all my life I was just to farsighted to notice.
