Paula's Story

What have I been up to: Life I've lived in the Las Vegas Valley for 50 years. Before that I wandered from Whidbey to Ohio, Nebraska, New York, Arkansas, Illinois, California. Met my second husband at the Scotch Mist Nightclub in Chicago, he was playing guitar and I was a cocktail waitress. That's how I got to Vegas. We divorced in 1974, he went back to school and became a doctor (who knew?) and I got an honest job in 1975. I worked for the state of Nevada for almost 30 years in the Welfare Division. I love being retired; thank the gods for good health, time and money. I'm a world traveler; I've walked on every continent. Russia was interesting in 2013, spent the 2014 holidays in France and this year I'm going to Romania and Bul...Expand for more
garia. Why not? Between trips I keep busy with community service, Democratic politics and a bit of self-employment as a parliamentarian. That's a civil occupation and I get to do some subsidized travel. This year I have two meetings in Washington D.C., one in Sacramento and three in Carson City. I also belong to a sociable wine study group -- we take drinking seriously and sample new wines every week. I live happily in my own home with three cats. My three kids are self-supporting, bless 'em, and live in Austin, TX; Orlando, FL, and Diamondhead, MS (50 minutes east of New Orleans). I have four grandchildren and one more expected in January. My goal, if alive and well, is to have a summer home on Whidbey when I tire of traveling.
