Paula's Story

Hi, remember me? I was your friendly, neighborhood wall flower. NOT ANYMORE! I got out of a very long and damaging marriage weighing 425 pounds and so severely depressed that I went through 12 jobs in less than one year. In 2004, I had gastric bypass surgery and lost 250 pounds. This past July, I had a complete body lift removing an additional 21 pounds. I still have a few surgeries that are deemed necessary by health professionals, but the biggest hurdle is over. In 2005, I bought my first bicycle since the age of 12. I use it like the majority of people use their cars. I do my marketing, make all my appointments, do my banking and everything else on my bike. I LOVE MY BIKE! In 2 weeks, I will be riding in The Tour De Palm Springs. I will be doing 25 miles. This is something that I could have never even dreamt of in my past body. Now I feel 20 years...Expand for more
younger and alive for the first time. What a relief! I don't know exactly when, but my goal is to return to Chicago. Currently, I am in school studying Court Reporting. This is a very difficult course. My intentions are to return to Chicago once I've finished this course, however, my Dad (who still lives in Mount Prospect) will be 94 in September 2008. Dad is doing great, but, as you know, things could change so that would certainly cut my schooling off imediately and bring me home at the same time. I am not unrealistic, but I hope that Dad is with me in mind and body for a long time, because he is the world to me. I have tried to get him to move out here, but some things just will never happen, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing everyone in the not to distant future -- hopefully a class reunion or something in that direction.
