Paula Smartt:

CLASS OF 1973
Jacksonville, AR
Nashville, TN

Paula's Story

I came to JHS right after Halloween 1970 unwillingly. I stayed until the following summer and then had to leave without telling everyone good-bye to go back to Nashville. I ended up in HS similar to Performing Arts where I thrived. I did not graduate from Jacksonville High but would have in 1973. I finished HS in Nashville and went to UTN here. From Drama Queen to Karaoke Queen, its been a wild ride. I went to the Univ of TN, dropped out, supported my MOM for years and nursed her thru her illness, and made up with my DAD, the notorious LARRY who stayed in Jacksonville after I departed. It was a good thing for all concerned. I have worked for UPS for 34 years now and am almost ready to retire and take it easy. I gave up acting after HS but continue to sing every weekend at the karaoke bar where all of my Nashville Gang hangs out. I love Rock & Roll. No country for thi...Expand for more
s chick although I do listen to some of it. Oh, yes! It was a good thing I got my driver's license in Tennessee because I can't parallel park. After being a military brat for years, would you believe that I stayed here in Nashville and never left to live anywhere else? I never wanted to move again. One of favorite things to do now beside karaoke is to visit Gatlinburg, TN and go to the craft shops and the outlet malls. I have fond memories of Jacksonville and left behind some very good people who encouraged me to stay and finish the school year. Pam Daley (Class of '73) and Karen Thompson (Class of '71) were two of my best friends that year. Many thanks to you for saving me that year! I would love to hear from any of you that knew me that year in 10th grade and wondered what happened to me. I ended up doing a whole lot better than I would have if I had stayed there.
