Paula's Story

As of May 13, 2010, I am married to the most wonderful man alive. We met 6 years ago a week after I moved to the west side of the state, Michigan that is. We met in a divorce group. I knew not a soul in the area and needed to have some adult connection as I went through this major life change. I had been married for 16 years to a man I never should have married. I don't want to bash him or anything but lets just say his lover was a bottle and not his wife. However, I have four beautiful children as a product of our relationship. Jessica, who is almost 21 years old. She is independent and driven. She lives in Austin TX currently and loves it. She shares my love of arts and is pursuing a degree in art history. Haley Paige, who is 16 years old, is very much like her mother. She is very talkative, involved with friends and seeks to be "in the mix" most of the time. I have a very bright son named Nathaniel who is 11. He is a kid who thinks outside the box and helps me see the world through a unique perspective. He is a perpetual comedian. Jason, my youngest, is 9 years old. He is very sensitive and caring. He is awesome at math and loves to play baseball. Adjusting to life as a single mother of four after being a stay at home mother for 16 years was a struggle. After I left I went to work for the first time since my oldest was 18 months old. I completed by bachelors degree and began my master of social work program at Western Michigan University. Although I met my current husband, Tim, the first week after I left my hellish life behind, we began a true and honest friendship. After a couple of months he suggested that we date. I was...Expand for more
more than a little leary but damn did he have good answers to all of my objections. We dated for 2 1/2 years before he proposed to me while on vacation up north. He picked a beautiful vineyard on top of hill over looking lake Michigan. It was absolutly perfect. We married in Jamaica on April 30, 2007, another perfect day. He truly blesses me on a daily basis. He is a wonderful father to my children and my perfect partner. He has two sons from a previous marraige. T.J. who is 10 and Jordan who is 7. They are great boys! Very different from my children who are very outgoing. All of the children get along well and T.J. and Jordan fit in wonderfully with my crazy outgoing brood. Currently,I am a foster care case manager for Lutheran Social Services of Michigan. LSSM is the largest private foster care provider in the state of Michigan. Only the Department of Human Services provides more foster homes to children than LSSM. This is a very difficult job but I love working with children and their families. I am looking forward to my husband finsihing his masters degree. I am an MSW and he will be an LPC/LLP in just a few months. He currently works for Pine Rest in their short term crisis unit. One day we look forward to having a practice together and presenting to groups on divorce, how to advoid it, how to survive it and how to protect yourself from it in the future. I am busy every minute of every day and look forward to a time when life slows down just a little. However, I love the life that I have created for myself. I live in a great community, have great freinds and a loving husband and children. What more could a woman ask for?
