Paula's Story

My Story: After graduation, I moved to San Francisco and joined the Ice Follies. I was lucky to be able to tour the United States and Canada with the show, and see some great sights along the way. It was most amusing to visit other Shorcrest grads at their colleges, mostly on the East Coast. (You know who you are :) I then spent the next 7 years or so teaching figure skating in Great Falls, Spokane and Albuquerque. My first retail job was at Saks Fifth Avenue, in Costa Mesa, CA. I returned to Seattle in 1984, and have been here ever since. I have worked for Macy's, formerly the Bon Marche, for 26 years, the last 15 years as a member of the store's management team. Many years ago I traded my figure skates for in line skates, and during the past 10 years have put in thousands of miles on the Burke-Gilman and Alki. My license plate holder says "I'd rather be skating on Alki." Over the years I have collected vintage Ice Follies and Ice Capades programs, and have them displayed in my stairway along with antique figure skating blades, some dating back to the earl...Expand for more
y 1900's. My favorite place at home is my "Music Room" which is decorated like a Hard Rock Cafe, with beat up musical instruments on the walls, vintage concert photos, my oboe and flute, concert posters (the latest from Daughtry at the Paramount this past July)and cool junk. Four years ago I adopted a 50# black lab/boxer/pitt bull mix named Lucy from a shelter (WAIF) on Whidbey who has brought such joy to my life. Now the artists community on Whidbey is one of my favorite getaways! I am a single parent with joint custody of my daughter, Laura, who is a Senior at Jackson High School in Mill Creek, and my technical advisor :) My home has been just NE of Mill Creek for many years, and I get to drive past Silver Lake everyday on the way to work. I have not been successful keeping a healthy work/life balance at times, and of late, I have begun to love to putter around my postage stamp size garden. I have collected several different Japanese Maples along my back fence, and can't wait for spring! My New Years commitment is to take Lucy for more walks, and get a life!
