Paula's Story
Best High School Memories:
Language classes with Mrs. Daia. . .French Club and French play Barber of Seville! Loved my summer trip before senior year to St. Malo France to study . . .Marching band under Bo Porter. We were the BEST! Cheryl Peat and I were the "quet" clarinetists, but we loved the turmoil caused by the class "cutups", including my brother Rick in the trombone section.
Wished I had time for yearbook and other fun projects, but had fun when I could, looked forward to college. Do wonder whatever happened to high school friends after we scattered.
First, I headed for Amarillo College where I loved being a part of Kappa, voted Best Active after serving as plegecaptain. . . lots of fun with other Tascosa grads before heading for UT.
Life after college:
I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1972 with honors in German and languages, and married my college sweetheart, Bob Boldt, in Austin, in July, 1972. So I dumped my job offer as a cryptanalyst for the NSA and decided to give up my dreams of a life of intrigue for "Mr. Right." When Bob finished his MBA, we set off for Chicago to pursue our respective careers in Investments and International Banking. I rose to level of Vice President, but by 1985 we had three daughters and were ready to relocate Bob's thriving investment firm to San Francisco; at that point I redefined myself to be a commun...Expand for more
ity volunteer, supporting the San Francisco Ballet, serving on the board of an Environmental Museum, trying to be a great mom, and travelling with my family.
We spent 17 years in the SF Bay Area and loved it, but in 2002, Bob was actively pursued by the University of Texas Investment Company to return to Austin to manage the assets of the University of Texas System. With both sets of parents aging and our three daughters almost launched (April was to enter her senior year in high school), we decided to move closer to family and make the Big Change.) We are now well-settled in to Austin life, and in some ways, it is great to return as a "grownup." Texas sports are still wonderful, I am on the Board of Ballet Austin (incredibly impressed with the fine ballet company here, given my former associations with San Francisco Ballet).
We still travel extensively. Happily two of our daughters live on either coast and give us great destinations to visit domestically in New York City and San Diego, while the third lives locally. Brittany is mother to our two fantastic grandchildren, Jack and Tess, while also juggling a career as a genetic counselor, specializing in Cancer Genetics. Lindsay is Vice President of a Private Wealth Management Firm, and April (who has been reassigned to Austin) covers central and south Texas as a sales engineer for a large telecommunications company.
