Pauline's Story

I have always been an eccentric creative with a strong bent towards leadership. I've also been a very late bloomer. In 1971, I began to study the art of massage. In 1975, I opened my practice in the midst of the transition between massage parlor ethics and massage therapy. I have many interesting and amusing stories about my early life as a massage therapist. I spent 25 years working for spas like the Spa at Bally's Park Place, Atlantic City as well as maintaining a successful private practice. For those who remember her, Paula Seidman was one of my bi-weekly clients. In 1972, I became an active member of the emerging women's movement and made the deliberate and conscious choice to not sleep with "the enemy", thereby coming out. I have been living out loud as a lesbian ever since - and I have never looked back or questioned my decision to love women. In 1992, I left Philadelphia and moved to Portland, Oregon to be with the woman I recently had fallen in love with... during my 10 years with her, I was "adopted" by two incredible t...Expand for more
eenagers who had come from tragic family circumstances. Both were best friends and both were born in the wrong bodies. Born female, they chose to transition. I've been their mom for over 20 years and I love my two sons, now 40 and 39 years of age. At the age of 53, I founded an LLC and became CEO of Hot Flash Dances. Until 2014, I became a successful entrepreneur in a niche market. Serving the women's and lesbian communities up and down the West Coast (and Phoenix), I produced dance parties for women of a certain age. It's been an incredible venture. On January 1, 2014, I retired and now live a much quieter life with my partner of 7 years in Vancouver, WA, a suburb of Portland, Oregon. Retirement has been a very difficult phase of life for me. After a year and a half, I have slowed down substantially. I now do pilates and yoga on a regular basis and I do a lot of painting. I know there is a lot more out there for me but I have yet to find it. If you're struggling with this issue, let me know and maybe we can support each other.
