How to give the "Reader's Digest" condensed version of the last 40 years... I got married 3 weeks after graduation to my handsome sailor, Stan; we celebrated our 40th anniversary on June 30, 2012 with a trip to Kauai and Oahu. While he was in the Navy, we lived in San Diego, Hawaii, Virginia, and South Carolina, with our son Chris born in 1974, and a daughter Jenni born to us in 1976. Our first adopted child, Sarah, joined our family in 1981, but she died in 1982 from overwhelming health issues. Later that year we adopted another son, Josh, also with special health issues. We settled in the Eugene-Springfield area of Oregon after Stan left the Navy, and have been here ever since. I became an RN in 1980 and worked in Labor/Delivery and as a neonatal nurse until returning to school in my 40s to become a Certified Nurse Midwife and also got a postgraduate Family Nurse Practitioner certification. I work full time in a busy 2-clinic 7-midwife practice doing births at a freestanding Birth Center and at the hospital. In 2011 I went on a medical mission trip to the Philippines, and hope to make other medical mission trips. Ultimately, I would like to do 3 or 4 trips a year, in an active "retirement". Stan has been in construction since leaving the Navy, and owns Pleasant Hill Construction, doing new construction as well as remodeling and additions (he is an amazing craftsman!).
