Peggy's Story
Life
2007 was quite a year for the Marlettes---some good news, some sad. Both Andy and Kristen are residing in Pensacola. Kristen married her college sweetheart, also a "Chris", making recalling names very easy for my Chris and me. We LOVE Chris Dixon and his family, and we're THRILLED that he and Kristen found each other at USM! Kristen is teaching dance in Pensacola, and Chris works for Cox Cable Systems and is a member of the Air Force National Guard. Andy is the graphic artist/political cartoonist for the Pensacola News Journal---yep, following in Uncle Doug's footsteps. We were DELIGHTED to have all the "kids" home for the holidays and we're tickled pink that they're living in the same city and are happy and successful!!
2007 brought some sad affairs to the Marlettes, as well. We lost Chris's dad on July 2, after a lengthy bout with COPD, and eight days later lost Doug in a tragic car accident. We had only been home from North Carolina two days when we turned around and made the trip again. On November 2, we lost Chris' lifelong best friend, Knotty, to cancer. W...Expand for more
e made two trips to Mississippi within three weeks. This has certainly been a rough year for Chris, but he's hanging in there. Looks like he'll retire from the education system at the end of this school year, unless he changes his mind by the end of the school year. After 38 years, I think he's ready to relax a bit.
I'm still teaching as well (34 years' worth)---gifted resource at Goldsboro Elementary, and LOVING IT!! My mom was diagnosed during Thanksgiving with a return of cancer and will begin treatment in a couple of weeks. Have been trying to help her and my dad a lot, as Dad's dementia finds him in a state of confusion most of the time. They've reached the point where they need to live in another setting or have help at home around the clock, so I'm trying to "guide" them to some decision-making that will ultimately provide more comfort and peace of mind.
Although we've reached a point in our lives where we're experiencing some sadness, life truly has been good to the Marlette crew, and I'm thankful for the blessings we've been showered with through the years!
