Peggy's Story
Life
I currently live in Hershey, PA. My interests are many including traveling, cooking, photography, animals especially horses . I used to participate in local schooling horse shows.
While still in high school at ELCO worked at the plastic factory in Myerstown for over a year. While there I decided I didn't want to work in a factory all my life, and looked into military service. I attended boot camp at Lackland AFB Texas, 6 weeks, than was sent to Sheppard AFB Texas (located in Wichita Falls, Texas) for tech school as a Medical Services Specialist or medic, also called Bed Pan Pushers (HA HA), I was then assigned to Wilford Hall Medical Center Lackland AFB Texas where I was stationed for my first 4 years. I worked on the Nurosurgical Ward (T5) for one year, then transfered to Ward A5 which was ENT, Opthamology and Oral Surgery I worked there for 6 months before transfering to the Plastic Surgery Clinic where I worked for 1 1/2 years. The Plastic Surgery Clinic was my best job assignment. I loved working with the doctors in minor surgery, actually handing the instruments and assisting with the minor procedures, it was both fullfilling, fun and interesting. I reinlisted for another four years and was given my base of preference which happened to be my last choice, Grissom AFB IN. While there I worked in the clinics emergency room. That's where I also met my husband and were married at the base chapel in May 1982. My husband was always interested in base and clinic sports especial umpiring and reffering and playing on the base soccer team. He got me interested also in playing, and we both played on the base soccer team for at least two years, I also participated in Clinic Womens Volleyball and Softball after I was discharged from the military. I left the military in July 1983, worked part time for the NCO ...Expand for more
Club as a part time dishwasher and part time cashier in the package store. Then I found a position as a Chiropactic Assistant in Peru, IN and worked there for about a year. After that I worked at the bases Child Care Center for about 2 months until I started school at Indiana Vocational Technical College in Kokomo where I got my Assiciate Degree in Secretarial Word Processing. Shortly after that my husband received his humanitarian re-assignment to LA Air Force Base in California and shortly after that we found out I was pregnant. We named her Victoria Lynn and she was born two months premature and with a chromosome deformaty. The doctors told us her chances of survival were not good. We had the privelege of knowing her for 19 glorious days which were very short and of which I will always treasure. When I could go back to work I applied for civil service positions and was hired as a clerk typist at DCASR (we reviewed the mid level civil service positions for the military) based in El Segundo. It was great because Vic was stationed at LA AFB, so I could go in with him. I worked there for approx. 6 months, when Vic fell down some staires at work and broke his neck and ruptured his spleen. I gave up my job to take care of him. After he healed and went back to duty I found another job working for an attorney in San Jacinto. After being laid off from that I found another job at a place called Starcrest doing data entry. But not for long, because I got another job offer working for another attorney who delt with family law, probate and real estate. It was a one attorney one secretary law office in Perris, CA. I worked there for one year before I got sick and he had to let me go. When I did finally go back to work I went back to Starcrest my illness got worse, had to quite, and have been medically retired since.
