Peggy's Story

Read this quote by Niall Williams and thought about we Boomers. "When you are born into a century and find yourself walking around in another, there's a certain infirmity to your footing. May we all be so lucky to live long enough to see our time turn to fable." We Boomers have lived through the tumult of the 60"s and now the trauma of a global pandemic. What a long, strange trip it's been. Love and peace my fellow Boomers. I'm not certain why I signed on to this website. High school was such an agonizing nightmare for me! Perhaps it's just morbid curiosity- the need to revisit the "scene of the crime," I suppose. There is little that's extraordinary about my life's story. After receiving my A.A. from San Joaquin Delta, I attended San Jose State for one year and then left college to "drop" into the counterculture for almost 15 years, and still consider myself an old "flower child" at heart. My counterculture years were spent both in Oregon and Calif. (Lake Tahoe), where I married someone also looking for mean...Expand for more
ing outside mainstream culture. I have one child, Tristan, who is 33. My husband died early in our marriage and I then stepped, with apprehension, back into the mainstream to support my son. I live in Salem, Oregon and worked for the "State Of Oregon" for over 20 years. I retired in 2015. In truth, I am still that awkward little girl I was in high school; trying to figure out where I "fit." I still find it shocking and somewhat humorous I worked in an office environment for over 20 years. My son is recently married, and I am hopeful I may have a grandchild before senility claims me. Personally, it is music and film that preoccupy my time. It's been a long, often strange and vivid journey. I doubt that anyone will remember me. I was an odd and excruciatingly shy girl in high school. I do have some fond memories however, of those difficult, four formative years, and I hope everyone from the class of 68' is well and happy. "It a serious thing, just to be alive on this fresh morning in the broken world." Mary Oliver
