Peggy's Story
After high school I attended Southern Oregon State college for one year. Married in Aug 1969 to DHS grad Bob Ortman (class of 64)
Our son Aaron was born in 1974 but only lived two days. Two more pregnancies and no children. Tried adoption in 1988 but the little girl was given to a single mother in Salem Oregon. So even though we don't have children we have plenty of children in our lives from family, friends and church ministry, and we feel very blessed.
We have lived in Dallas all these years. In my thirties I wanted to move away and see the world. Now I love this little town and am glad we live here. We do hope to travel a little someday when we retire, but with the price of gas that is probably just a dream.
I work part time for Chemeketa College at the Dallas Center, located on site at the Dallas High School, back by the railroad tracks (so there goes the hiding place for the smokers!) For three years we rented classes from DHS right across the hall from the gym (in same location, and smells the same too!) Our center is an outreach (and one of many) centers for Chemeketa College in Salem. I really enjoy the job

teach for Weekday Bible School. (They now have 5 chapels in town, each across the street from the public school) Remember Mrs Ferguson who taught at Lyle Bible school? With my round hips and silver hair I am told I look like Mrs. Doubtfire, and that is probably one of the reasons little children like me. Lyle chapel is still there with those old fashioned desks with inkwells. Interesting going around and reading names that kids carved in them.
I love to have company and have people sitting around our dining room table. I like reading, computer, garage sales and all kinds of social events. The Dragon Diva's are getting together every so often and we have been having a blast getting to know one another for the first time or re- establishing friendships from back then. We try to get a picture every time we get together. Our reunion committee is trying to locate so many of our classmates that we have no current address for. I was very shy and insecure with the guys back in high school so never really got to know them and feel bad about that.
Have had fun writing to classmates on the site. please write me when you can. peggy proctor ortman
