Janice's Story
Life
I married my high school sweetheart in 1968. We divorced when he came home from Viet Nam. I have one son from that marraige. I remarried to a great husband spending 20 years with him. A couple of years ago he developed health issues that affected his personality. Sadly, we separated and divorced. During the last 20 years I lived on a farm raising Lamancha dairy goats. Raising goats was one of the most wonderful things I've ever done. It was an adjustment for a city kid, but once I got into I absolutely loved it. We had to disperse our herd three years ago due to my husband's health. I've got great memories and great pictures of the goat years. I'm now living on my own in the house my ex-husband and I built together. It's a big place with lots of work. My three puppies keep me company. I spend time walking the puppies, being with my two granddaughters, reading, and playing with my computer.
Life is full of changes and challenges. Much like Forrest Gump said on chocolates, life is also like a pile of rocks. April (2009) I've been facing my Mount Everest of life. I was diagnosed with aggressive invasive Adeno Carinoma Breast Cancer. A lumpectomy successfully removed the cancerous tumor. Currently I am undergoing chemo therapy. When the chemo is finished I'll start radiation. Each day brings a new challenge. Overall, I do have to say it has not been as bad as I expected. Research has come so far it is incredible. It is bothersome and annoying, but tolerable. And it's just another rock. I fully intend to reach the summit of my Mount Everest.
Updated 9/23/13... I reached the summit of my personal Mount Everest and am a 4 1/2 year survivor now. Chemo and radiation were certainly a journey and being bald was not fun. BUT I survived and am one VERY lucky lady. I have remarried and have an amazing husband whose former wife died of cancer. He truly understands the journey. I have retired and am loving it. My farm is up for sale and we are considering a condo down in Myrtle Beach for retirement. Not sure yet where we are headed. Life is amazing right now.
Updated 01/24/16... Life is amazing. Sadly my 2 precious granddaughters are almost grown and have little time for Granny. So goes life. Each day is a joy.
